Q: Can anyone recommend a good pain management M.D, In Austin,TX. That will not treat me like a drug addict?
I have already been to Pain management consultants. With J.Lowell Haro,M.D. They tried everything from injections to stimulators etc. They said that the only thing left is narcotics, which worked fine. Norco max of 8 a day. I started to ask for early refills because workmans comp only let me have a 15 day supply at a time. And i was traveling to mexico, and had to come back for the next refill. Then without any warning he cut me off, and said sorry the law says I can no longer give you anymore. So i had to go through withdrawls for a month. It was no fun of course. My pain is getting worse,so i went to my family doctor and he recommended Advanced Pain Care with Malone,Mark T MD. Called for a appointment, they have not called back, it has been 2 days already. After looking him up in the internent. It seems that he and his staff were very rude. According to one person. HELP.
A: Good luck! THe FDA is really coming down hard on doctors who prescribe pain meds. My husband has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and is on Percocet and the Duragesic patch and it’s a fight every month to get them refilled. What’s your diagnosis?
Q: Belly button piercing pain management?
I just got my belly button pierced yesterday and I want to know how to help the pain.
Thanks in advance for the help?
A: Not being a pansy helps.
Q: what is a pain management center?
i have a bulging disc in my neck that traps the main nerve root to my arm. and have opted not to have surgery done on my neck but when ever i ask for stronger pain meds than Lora tab 7.5 he keeps telling me that he would have to refer me to a pain management center and i have no idea what that is
thanx in advance
A: A pain management center will evaluate your needs and give you the proper PT or medications that you need to control pain over an extended period of time.
Pain management has saved me from going insane with pain.
I have a cervical spine injury and have been in a pain management program for several years.
As long as you don’t abuse it they will help you a lot.
Q: Pain Management Dr in NJ why wont anyone help me?
I am 28 I have frequent migraines and recently diagnosed with advanced stages of degenerative spine disease and a bulging/herniated disc in my neck. Neurologist gave me Tylenol 3 for pain – didn’t work- gave me percocet low dose – didn’t work gave me a higher dose which worked, he was reluctant so I said look if you don’t want to manage my pain send me to pain management boy was that a mistake! this dr. now wont even give me tylenol 3, he gave me some stupid exercises to do which i’m in too much pain to do, some days are not so bad so i do them, but he wont do anything for me, I told him what has worked in the past and that I have a 10yr old son and an active life. i don’t want to get high but I need something strong for the real severe pain, like when it’s cold and rainy out, he says he never gives anything for pain. So should i go to someone else? or are all PM Dr.s in NJ gonna be the same way? I am in so much pain I have to lay down alot and my son needs me.
A: Thanks to all the Junkies abusing narcotics ,those of us with REAL Chronic pain cant get the help we need. There have been studies that show how pain drugs work at the point where pain meets the brain blocking the message ,, In patients who have real pain, Unlike people who have NO pain, the drug goes to the “Pleasure center” in the brain where it gets you “High” and addicted. I got lucky and found a dr. who is willing ti help me. You need to find a . WAIT, You know what,,, E-mail me ,I dont want to give my info to any Addicts who may read this, I just erased 10 lines of stuff.
Q: 2 questions. 1.) What position is your baby in when they give him/her immunizations? 2.) Pain management use?
1.) I came across an article today on Bump.com (http://pregnant.thebump.com/new-mom-new-dad/baby-basics/articles/vaccinations-what-baby-will-need.aspx ) and the picture of the baby being injected is on his/her stomach. All of my daughter’s immunizations have been given while she was lying on her back on the exam table. I think it might have been easier on her if they had given me the opportunity to lay her on her stomach because she wouldn’t see what was happening. BTW, I tried to have her given the shots while my she was nursing but the nurse told me that the office policy was that the baby had to be on the exam table, for safety reasons. (That was just one more thing that really turned me off to that doctor.) My daughter is on an alternative immunization schedule so she only received the 4 main infant vaccines thus far. I chose to do only 2 at a time so maybe the nurse thought since it was only 2 it would be easiest to just have her laying on her back, I don’t know. My daughter is now 15 months old and I have since changed Peds (for numerous reasons) however she hasn’t had any more shots since we switched so I don’t know if this new office does it the same way and I haven’t thought to ask yet. So what position does your Ped/nurse put your baby in when they give the immunizations? On tummy? On back? Seated? Do they allow you to nurse during the shot or only afterward?
2.) Also, have you ever used any pain management techniques? I know there is a cream called EMLA (http://www.drugs.com/pro/emla.html ) which is basically Lidocaine and another topical that numbs the area where the shot will be given. I haven’t used it yet but I am considering it. Has anyone else used this or another method for pain management for their child? I know it can also be used before a circumcism so the newborn doesn’t feel the pain of the cutting.
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Yes, Avary’s a little toughie too. She screams when they first do the injection but I pick her right up and she’s fine. I just don’t want her associating the doctor’s office with all negative thoughts. I know even pets that get shots at the vet get so worked up and scared when they know they are going to the vet. My cat starts meowing so loud as soon as we get to the door. He knows what’s coming. EVen if it’s not a shot visit, he freaks out. I just don’t want Avary to have that anxiety whenever we have to go to the ped.
Thanks for all the great answers!
A: 1. Our children have all received their shots (as infants) laying on their backs on the exam table or being held in a cradling position by my husband or myself.
I understand that some doctors do permit the baby nursing while receiving the shots, but many do not as a safety precaution. They can request that the child not be fed atleast 1-2 hours prior to coming in to get the shots to reduce the chance of aspiration (A infant patient may aspirate for example by accidentally drawing material from the stomach into the lungs due to crying). Understandibly you want to have her as calm and comfortable as possible prior to the shot but aspiration is definitely something to avoid. Nursing her immediately after the shot to help her calm down is a safer approach. She will know that mommy is right there to help her & will probably forget about the shot as soon as she feeds.
2. As for pain meds we have always used either infants Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen, depending on age. Here in the states you have to get lidocaine with a prescription so we order ours from Canada where it is OTC. I have never used it for the vaccinations but may now that you mention it
Q: I need to know if Methadone is a legal pain killer in Thailand, India, Cambodia Philippines Mexico CostaRica?
Thailand, India, Cambodia, Philippines, Mexico, CostaRica. For Pain Management
It would be nice to know about pain management doctors, Hospitals in any of these countries.
I do know about drug addict clinics but it is doughtful they will take pain management cases so any help on doctors, hospitals . Thank You in advance.
A: Methadone is Methamphetamine Amphetamine base and it is not found in the latest edition of MIMS. Most likely it is not sold in the Philippines and should it be sold it will require Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Dangerous Drug Board clearance which I do not think they will approve its distribution and sale since it can cause addiction. Methadone is used to treat Addiction, and in the wrong hands it will cause more problems than solutions. I am sure drugs that are already approved by the said agencies are more than enough to be used by Medical Professionals to treat drug addiction in rehab centers. Should you be admitted don’t worry they will give you plenty of beating that you probably would not need Methadone to relief you of the pain.

Q: pain management drug test?
This is a serious question, please no rude remarks or kids just playing around. And no one telling me i am a drug addict because i am not i have atleast 3 herniated discs in my back along with 4 other back problems. I am in pain and trusting someone helpful on yahoo answers to help me figure this out.
Ok i have recently been referred to pain management because my regular doctor said he can not up my prescription any higher because it is a very controlled substance. I went yesterday to the pain management and they prescribed what my regular doctor has been giving me. 15 mgs of oxycodone generic for roxicodone. They gave me “enough” for two weeks (one 15 mg pill 3 times a day). And told me to come back in two weeks to see how it worked and at that time i will be given a drug screening, i guess that is just something they do in pain management.
Now heres my issues. I have been on oxycodone for some time now and the 45 mgs a day is not enough, and they obvisouly just wont give me double the amount. and i am used to taking more because of another doctor i used to go to perscribed me 30 mg pills four times a day. but i did not have any of my old bottles to show them. (i stopped seeing this doctor because i had lost my insurance, and cant go back to him bc he is no longer in practice) so what i do is either take more oxycodone from other sources or take suboxone to get rid of the withdrawals from being on the meds for so long. So my question is… when you go to pain management what kind of drug test do they normally give you. Also do pain management doctors always test for suboxone? how long does suboxone stay in your system? And also when they test you for the oxycodone, can they see the amount you are taking. For instence if i am supposed to be taking 45 mgs a day and i take 100 mgs a day can they tell? And one more question. If i take an oxycontin when i run out will they be able to tell the difference between and oxycontin and an oxycodone in the drug screening. The thing is i don’t want to fail the drug test for anything because they will not see me anymore if i do. Plus i don’t want to look like a raging drug addict to them. Because when you go to pain management you sign an agreement that you will not take any other pain medicine and if you do they stop seeing you. So please any info anyone can give me id appreciate it.
thank you in advance.
My doctor referred me to a neuro surgeon (spelling) last week. so i haven’t gone yet. but i am so afraid to get back surgery because of all the horror stories i have heard. I am only 23 years old so im not sure if they will do back surgery. And i don’t know the extent of my herniated disc’s because the doctors don’t really seem to explain them to me that well. i think they think because im young i just want the pills and ill shut up, but the amount of pills they give is not enough and i don’t want to look back asking for 30 mg instead of 15 but i honestly need them. but i do want to know whats wrong and i want to fix it.
my sister gets the thing with the electric or something like it i think. she had to stop it because it was burning holes threw her skin. then they sent her home with something that she attacthes to her back with little electric shocks or something and they gave her two epidurals, none of it worked for her so i am hesitant. we both had bad car accidents
suboxone is a drug used to treat opiate dependent people so they don’t go threw withdrawal i take it when i run out of my medicine because im obvisouly going to go threw withdrawal being on pain meds for a while and it also helps with the pain. But i guess the person was right when they said these weeks are going to be hell because i am going to have to take the allowed dose and nothing more because i really cant afford to be kicked out for failing the drug test.
i was wondering if anyone knows exactly how the test works… like when they show the levels of oxycodone is it the level you took the day before or what you took that day or the past week? how does that work?

i know i wasn’t honest with them! because i have no proof that i was on 30 mgs of oxycodone a year ago because like i said i stopped going because of insurance reasons and the doctor no longer practices its turns out he wasn’t just giving patients that needed the pain med he was giving it to EVERYONE, so he g! so i cant even give that info to pain management because they will think i am just trying to get drugs. That is what i am scared of. Iv known people in such pain and the doctors are so quick to judge thinking that they are addicts because they want more when they really need more and then they get cut off! i am just afraid for them to just cut me off. but i am going to be honest with them when i go back and tell them the truth that i really need more for pain reasons and tolerance reasons since thats what iv been taking. i just wish i would have said this all in the beginning and i hope they don’t turn me down because of a bad urine test of extra meds that i “shouldn’t” be taking
A: Amanda is dead wrong in her first few lines. A better analogy than the one she gave would be telling the difference between taking a Tylenol and a Tylenol 8 hour. Tylenol and Tylenol 8 hour both have the same active drug just in different formulations. Like the others told you, roxicodone and oxycontin both have the same active drug, oxycodone.
Your first urine test is going to be your baseline test which will help them figure out how fast your body metabolizes the oxycodone and help determine how much you have been taking. They should have a good idea what your levels should be but after getting your baseline they will have a better idea of what your subsequent tests should be. I say urine because that is what most pain management doctors use and not a blood draw. If they use urine they probably won’t use instant dip stick style tests either.
If you really want to show the doctor you used to take more, have you thought about getting your prescription records from the pharmacy?
Q: Pain Management?
Has anyone ever been to Pain Management? Side effects? Good or Bad? Painful? Does it work? My Doc wants to send me there to get Cortizone shots in my back… I am not feeling it.. Just wandering others intake on the situation. Thanks in Advance…
A: I have worked for two Pain managment doctors. They each had different viewsof how to treat chronic pain. I feel that if you have chroinc pain, then you should see a pain managment doctor. I am not sure you really understand exactly what your doctor is recommending.
Pain managment is a speciality just like surgery, neurology, etc. The doctors that specialize in pain managment attend course to get that extra training. Some are internists and some are anesthesiologists. Most pain managment doctors will talk with you before they do any type of injections. That is when you ask all of your questions. They will go over side effects and give you the pro and cons of the injection. They might have other suggestions that are better too.
I have included a couple of links that explain the type of injection your personal doctor is suggesting. there is also one that explains Pain management,
Q: Pain management help!!!!!?
i got accepted into a Pain management program for back pain, my doctor prescribed flexiral, and tramadol, the flexiral is impossible for me to take, i will literally stay asleep for 24 hrs if someone does not wake me up and the tramadol does absolutely nothing for the pain!…..my concern is that i will look like a f-ing junkie by asking him to prescribe something a little stronger like hydro codone, or oxy codone. #1 should i be afriad to ask for want i need from my own doctor, #2 how should i approach this subject with him?
thanks in advance!
A: “I need norco 10 mg because I have severe pain, this tramadol doesn’t work.”
Q: How should I choose a pain management specialist/anesthesiologist & what should I expect when I am seen?
I was in a car accident in late March and my back/neck/shoulder pain has been getting progressively worse. My neurologist has recommended contacting a pain management specialist or an anesthesiologist. I researched the recommendations my doctor gave me and both had mixed reviews. Among the reviews were horror stories of doctors over-prescribing, under-prescribing and everything in-between. Many patients were refused pain medication for various reasons following a urine test. One patient said they were refused further medication because their test yielded a false-negative (for opiates, I believe). Another was refused medication because their test yielded a positive (for what they tested positive for, was not included).
In general I am concerned that, because I’m fully aware of the extent that malingering occurs with such specialties and because my pain isn’t a result of a fracture or another similar problem, I won’t be taken seriously.
Which leads me to more questions…
- Is it typical to see other health care professionals, (P.A., R.N., etc.), at most office visits?
- What is involved in the first (screening) visit? Is a urine test standard practice?
- Although patients who have their payments processed through No-fault, workman’s compensation, etc., should be entitled to equal care from any individual, is this typically the case?
I would really appreciate hearing from both health care professionals, and patients. I understand that every doctor has his/her own set of standard procedures, so I would like to hear about your experiences to better understand what I will be facing. Thank you in advance for your input.
A “Best Answer” will be awarded! Thank you again!!
Thank you so much for your time, and sharing! I hope your husband feels better!!
A: Doctors involved in pain management in WA state have to do urine tests before they prescribe anything like Morphine, Oxycodone or Oxycontin because they are legend drugs. If they catch you with weed in your urine they can’t prescribe you anything stronger than Tylonol.
The Doctors where I live are pretty good but once in a while you get one who thinks you’re exaggerating and you have to get your point across to them. My husband has nerve damage and a broken back that causes pain and he’s tried everything short of suicide to get relief. Some things work and you get tolerant towards that drug and they have to start something else. I suggest you don’t try anything addictive at first because if you’re at the movies, parties etc. and you forget to take a pill you have to leave before withdrawal sets in. I suggest Tramadol. It’s the strongest thing you can get before the addictive stuff. Good Luck, I know how it is to hurt all the time and I hope it gets better for you.
Q: I pulled my tricep. My arm bruised to my wrist. 11 days later still having pain in lower arm. How to heal?
I probably put this on the wrong thread yesterday. I’m more interested in advancing the healing process naturally than I am about pain management.
A: Put it on heat-or rub your affected skin with muscle cream. Maybe put it in a splint and hoist it up higher than your heart-elevated limbs heal faster when they are higher than the heart. Rest it-Niacin, B complex, and vitamin c, e, k, trace minerals like selenium helps. Things also heal faster underwater-cautiously begin simple exercises to help the tricep-lift weights underwater then but start off with body weight
Q: Pain management for Hernia (Pre-op)?
So I found out I have a Inguinal hernia and am having surgery for it in a week and half. As time has come closer I’m in much more pain than before down my right leg, in the right side of my abdomen and in the problem area, what should I do or is there any OTC medication I can take to relieve the pain prior? I’ve been taking Motrin but its not working so well anymore. It tends to hurt when sitting or laying down, the best option I’ve found is to sleep.
Thanks for your suggestions in advanced.
A: You need to talk to your doctor about getting on a lose dose narcotic to help stop the pain; OTC meds aren’t going to help.
Q: I was just told that i am going to need pain management and i’m scared?
i was in an auto accident on October 1, 2008 and have been in pain every day since. the problem is w/ my neck and upper back. i have had x-rays and gone through 2 separate 12 session stints of physical therapy which gave me no relief, the only thing that helps are the pain killers. I was just told that i need to get an MRI and most likely have herniated disks and my next step is pain management. I was told I would be getting an epidural treatment I am terrified of needles, i can’t even watch someone get them on tv. I checked out what info i can get online but would like to hear from someone who has had this tye of treatment and what you thought of it, did it help you, does it hurt to have it done, any other things you might be able to tell me to put my mind at rest. thanks in advance
A: I am Sorry to hear you were in such a horrible traffic accident. I was in a terrible auto wreck a few years back and was in extreme pain for a long time. I went to Pain Management and physical therapy and they work over time. i also used a Muscle Relaxant and Pain Relief Medication to help me get full nights rest. I found Tramadol HCL Rx for Pain Relief and I also used Soma Watson Rx Muscle Relaxer. Soma Medicine is a muscle relaxant used to relieve the pain and stiffness of muscle spasms and discomfort due to strain and sprain. Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. It also may be used to treat pain caused by surgery and chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. Tramadol works by decreasing the brain’s perception and response to pain. It also reduces the size or magnitude of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. Both Tramadol and Soma are available Overnight from MedicineRx.Net. http://medicinerx.net/tramadol.php?c=Pain-Management .No Prior Prescription needed to order! I hope this info helps you Dear and you get better like i did. Time will work in your favor.
Q: Pancreatitis Pain Management?
My mother was diagnosed with pancreatitis about 3 months ago, along with Diabetes (because of Pancreatic failure). She is on a sliding scale for insulin and doesnt need a shot that often. She is also on Protonix (antacid med) and a blood pressure medication.
However, she still has alot of abdominal pain, What other steps can we take to alieve the pain and how long will she be in this discomfort? also, what is the usual recovery time for pancreatitis?
Thanks in advance!
A: you can try using a hot water bottle on the area of pain for twenty minutes. I recommend papaya tablets or fresh papaya to consume as often as possible. This really helps the pancreas because of the enzymes in the papaya.
If you have any further questions please let me know,
