Q: Any treatment for low back pain/degenerated disc?
My husband is 34. From the past two months or so, he has been suffering from intolerable low back pain which worsens when he lies down. Because of this, he has not been sleeping properly for the past two months. CT scans and MRI scans have been unable to pin point the exact problem. But they have located a dehydrated disc which was likely to pinch at the nerve and cause pain. He has undergone a spinal epidural too but did not get even an iota of relief. He has come back disappointed from three big hospitals. Now all that pain as well as pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs have given him a bad stomach. He also takes sleep medication but is unable to sleep for more than 45 minutes or an hour. Is there anybody else who has faced such problem and whose condition has improved after some particular treatment? Or any ayurvedic treatment? Please help!
He had been to chennai apollo and met the said doctor Dr. Sajan Hegde. But they simply put him on pain killers and sent him back. He is having a very bad time because of all this pain.

A: My man just had a surgery called a laminectomy where the bone is removed from the back to relieve pressure from the nerves. It has helped tremendously…but he is back on the anti-inflammatories. Because the surgery worked so well….(he also had the blocks done) he went through his physical therapy and has continued those exercises. He does alot of stretching exercises with a great big ball…to build his core up. If his nerve is being pinched he needs relief from that before it can begin to heal. Good Luck….make sure he’s seeing an orthopedic surgeon (the best if possible) and try stretching without twisting.

Q: Do you have a success story in treatment of low back pain due to sacralization l5?
Sacralization :( anomalous fusion of the fifth lumbar vertebra with the first segment of the sacrum.)
My Doctor said that I have to accept this pain in my whole life off and on.

A: Have you talked to a back surgeon about it? You probably have or don’t want to pay boo koos for a consultation. Check Web MD maybe they can help give more advice for free. Okay then good luck.

Q: what are the treatment options for Low back pain?
I am diagonised with Low Back Pain about 5 months back. I am taking pain releiving tablets and gel for local aplication apart from LS Belt. After 3 months of wearing the belt, my doctor advised me to discard the LS belt and practice physiotherapy. But without belt, if I bent or lift moderatly heavy articles, I get pain in the lower back. I want to know what are the other treatment options? In future, if it is not diminished, will I need to undergo surgery? I used to ride two wheeler by wearing the belt. My job is office job, computer related, full time. I have got other diseases like Depression, Anxiety,Hypercholestrolemia, Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis and GH.
Will any doctors or experienced patients may answer my question.?

A: First of all, if you fel better with the belt, then wear it.

Second, there are exercises that your doctor should have informed you about which will strengthen your lower back and help relieve pain. These exercises do help. You must be vigilant in doing them at least twice a day – morning and night.

Third, and VERY important – how you sit at your office job affects your lower back. You may need to buy a lower back support cushion, OR a back support system office chair.

Q: What is the latest treatment for low back pain? Is there any method to replace the degenerated disk?

A: Yes, they can make an artificial disk to replace the degenerated disk. Also there are implants that are placed on the spine that controls the pain, some use medicines others electrical current. There have been many advances on back surgery. I personally recommend you see a chiropractor before you do something as radical as surgery. Chiropractors are the best specialists for treating low back pain. I’ve enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area in the USA.

Q: How to find treatment for Lower Back Pain?
My wife is suffering from lower back pain for past 3 months & still the pain persists. We had done aryurvedic treatment, but of no use. Then we went to a neurologist & now having his medicines. But still the pain persists. The pain started after doing some cleaning work at the house for a long time. Can anybody suggest any good remedy or suggest some good doctors for treatment?

A: I empathize with you, been there for many years.

The only thing that has helped is a core of exercises that were specifically related to “my” type of back pain, not the general exercises that are usually given.

I do them upon awakening, mainly three, that really do the trick. If I skip a few days or sit too long, wham, the pain returns. But I can instantly get rid of it.

The key is finding “which” exercises that pinpoint and stretches the area that is stiff and everyone’s area of pain is different.

Depending upon what is causing your back pain, it may only be controlled and not totally eliminated. But you must do something on your own daily, and it should be the “correct” thing.

Just a note, I do visit an excellent massage therapist who gives me deep tissue massages in the areas when I really overdue it, and am suffering from the pain. I personally can’t stress enough how tremendous this is when you find the best therapist for your pain. Once again, pain gone.

Check out below one of the best resources I’ve used now for the past 3 years that assisted me in pinpointing “my” trouble spots and thereby ridding me of the pain.

You can be helped.

Best to you…

Q: What is a good home treatment for lower back pain?
A friend of mine that lives out of town only 1 and half hour drive anyways he’s been having lower back pain for a couple of days now tonight when i was chatting to him on msn i ask him if he had any pain killers he said no and i asked him if he has any money to buy some he said no then i asked him if he had a heating pad and he said no again and i asked him if its any better then it did 2 days ago he said a little and it started when he was sitting down and watching t.v. with his girl friend (its not me) i would like to know is there any home treatment he can do to take away his back pain?
HE HAS NO PAIN KILLS AT ALL AND NO HEATING PAD just want to know what is good HOME TREATMENT HE HAS NO MONEY TO BUY ANYTHING FOR IT.

A: If the pain is originated in the muscles, then stretching, doing strengthening exercises and taking anti inflammatory meds such as ibuprofen will help. If it originates in the bones, that’s a problem for doctors to handle. If it is a muscle problem then, while watching t.v. have him do some stretches on a hard surface. Sit on the bare floor and try different stretch positions to see which ones cause the most pain, and work on those problem areas. Besides that, have him get off of his butt and stop watching so much t.v. The core of the body is the most important part to maintain because his problems will only get worse in the future if he does not do some abdominal or lumbar exercises. Investing in a heat pad will do some good too, but make sure to take aspirin or ibuprofen everyday.

Q: I have disabling lower back pain. What caused my low back pain? What is the besy treatment I can get?
My spinal x ray film turnedout to be normal. There is no facility to have CT or MRI investigation in my near by hospital.

A: First of all, I have bad news and good news for you. The bad news is that I can’t tell you what caused your low back pain. The good news is that I know of someone who could answer your first question.

Q: treatment for low back pain? had mri and discograph?
resulting in degenerative disc at L5-S1 with central disc protrusion with contrast tracking from nucleus to posterior annulus in midline. Not resulting in nerve root commpression or highgrade foraminal encroachment. also no spinal stenosis or highgrade thecal sac compression.Tried all types of therapy ie;facet and various injections and physical therapy. wanting to know if I’m cadidate for surgery if so what type and or any other methods of treatment

A: It does not sound like this is a case for surgery as there is no neurological involvement…although I would discuss with a surgeon…perhaps you’d be a candidate for less invasive options such as IDET or percutaneous disc decompression…also discuss with the surgeon.

What was the course of your PT? There are various approaches to physical therapy. If you haven’t already, I would see someone who is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy. You can find someone who is at www.mckenziemdt.org

Q: question regarding prolotherapy treatment for lower back pain?
Is it possible to worsen a chronic pain condition with prolotherapy if you are not injected in exactly the right place. (for example an inexperienced or unskilled doctor who is injecting you in the wrong area.)

Thanks.

A: There is conflicting evidence about its effectiveness and it is an experimental treatment.

In my non-medical opinion, I do believe this is not a safe procedure to try until the medical benefits are established.

Prolotherapy involves the injection of an irritant solution into the area where connective tissue has been weakened or damaged through injury or strain.

It works by irritating the surrounding tissue, causing it to become inflamed, which indicates there is damage/injury. Then it heals itself.

Q: which hospital in delhi would be good for treatment of low back pain in female ,problem orthopedic and neuro?

A: having his girlfriend give him a little back massage might help but what he needs most is heat.

since he doesn’t have a heating pad or painkillers then tell him to soak in a really warm bath for about 20-30 mins. this should help a little. if he has a dryer in the house-tell him to put a bathtowel in there for about 15 mins to get it nice and warm then fold it up and put it on his back where it hurts-the heat will help soothe it.

don’t put anything in the microwave to heat it up (such as a towel or washcloth) this could start a fire.

hope he feels better
