Q: What causes chronic pelvic pain?
I have been suffering from chronic pelvic pain for several years, have had 3 surgeries for this, and still suffer daily from this. I am even thinking I have PCOS. I am ready to change Gyne’s as I am not getting any relief and am tired of living this way!
A: That’s a difficult question I don’t think anyone really knows and I think it kinda also depends on your symptoms.
Personally I reckon it’s caused by Trigger Points in muscles
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigger_point) and an inbuilt pelvic focus for stress.
There’s a good book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook Second Edition by Clair Davis which gives a good introduction to Trigger Points.
Also http://www.pelvicpainhelp.com by Dr. David Wise is a pretty good site. It’s targeted more towards men but has a growing female section (http://www.pelvicpainhelpforwomen.com/).
Apart from that hot baths, stretching and relaxation are good for it.
I’ve had this for about 3 years 365 days a year. The first year was absolutely f*$kd up but after finding help from these sites (my doctors sucked) I’ve improved a lot.
Hopes this helps you with your pain.
Q: what causes pain in the pelvic, hip and lower back region during pregnancy, and what helps relieve it?
My fiance is 25 weeks pregnant, and is a fairly active person, but now she is experiencing pain and discomfort in her pelvic, hip and lower back region. Keep in mind this is someone who walked daily and loves to walk.
A: Hmmm, I’m actually not too sure about this one. Later in pregnancy, when the baby flips to the head down position and then later when he or she drops, it puts pressure on those areas, but I can’t see either of those things happening at only 25 weeks.
Send her to the doctor to find out.
Best of luck and congrats on the little one!
Q: What are some causes of chronic pelvic pain and could they be related to irregular periods?
A: Endomirtiosis. its a cellular disease with no cause and no cure,1 in 5 women have it. how it works is whenever a woman starts her period radical cells from the lining that are supposed to be expelled from the body via the period actualy go to other places throughout the body. they then turn cling to organs and turn into scar tissue, causing many issues. the commen symptoms are:
1. Painful periods
2. heavy/irregular periods
3. pain during sex
4. headaches
5. low grade fever right before/during period
6. fatigue
and many more but some women have no symptoms at all.doctors tend to miss this disease if they are not looking specificly for it.but time is a factor as the longer you have it the worse the symptoms get and it eventualy causes infertility if gone untreated.

A: its the baby putting pressure there. sometimes it will just be from the baby’s weight, other times the baby will be sitting on a nerve or tendon.
a massage always helped me, or a hot water bottle. make sure she rests with her feet elevated higher than her heart everyday, it will help with her circulation and swelling.
Q: What are causes of pelvic pain, other than ovarian cysts, at 16?
I am 16 and have been experiencing pelvic pain for a few months. The pain seems to be worse when i have my period, which i get regularly for about 5 days. I went to the doctor and they sent me for a ultrasound and they found a 1 or 2 cm cyst on my ovary. The gyn said after my next period we would get another ultrasound to see if it was still there. We did and it was still there, same size and everything. I was just put on Loestrin 24 today, and i know that it takes a while to see any changes. I’m not a dr or anything but i don’t see how so much pain could come from such a small cyst. So that leads me to believe that something else is causing the pain. I also have pain on the left side (my cyst is on right ovary) at times too. They said if the cyst was still there or pain still continues after 3 months of BC then i would be sent for an MRI. Is there anything else that could cause pelvic pain at this young of an age? I’m a virgin, so STDs and things like that are ruled out. I constantly have discharge when not on my period, and my breasts are very tender. I’ve also been very emotional and somewhat depressed lately, i’m not sure if that’s a symptom of something or just my hormones speaking.
A: Ovarian cysts can cause severe pelvic cramping, which could very well be the cause for the pain that you are feeling. You are right too when you say that it might take a while to see any changes since you only just started taking the pill.
Abdominal/pelvic pain that is similar to that of period cramping may indicate a problem in a reproductive organ (like the pain around your ovaries or uterus).
This includes conditions such as endometriosis (when tissue from the uterus is displaced to somewhere else like the pelvic wall or ovaries), uterine fibroids (thick bands of muscular and fibrous tissue in the uterus), ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer (rare), or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) infection of the reproductive organs, usually from a sexually transmitted disease.
If you have pain in your ovary area, it might not only be caused by your ovarian cyst, but you may have endometriosis. I was also diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007 which caused me severe pelvic pain and intense and painful period cramping and severe pain feeling like a knife stabbing me around my ovaries..
Based on your symptoms and what you wrote, I would recommend that you should see your doctor/gynaecologist, just to rule out any serious causes.
Good luck

A: possibilities are – PID, ovarian cyst, ovulation – check in sections INFECTIONS, DYSFUNCTIONS and GENERAL INFO accordingly
Q: Is pelvic pain and lower back ache always a sign of uterine cancer?
What other things besides cancer can cause pelvic pain with lower back ache?
Never had a UTI but it does not hurt to pee. Have had pain for one month now. Sometimes back hurts so much when I stand up its terrible.
A: The most relevant piece of information needed here is the person’s age. Pelvic pain and lower back ache alone are not symptoms of uterine cancer at all and are not typical symptoms. 97% of uterine cancer patients present with vaginal bleeding which is significant as 85% occur in postmenopausal women and it is rarely found in women under 40. Low back pain can be caused by several things and is one of the most common complaints there is. Pelvic pain is too non-specific to know the cause. So these symptoms combined could be caused by many things, but uterine cancer is not likely to be one of them.
Q: Recently I discovered what exactly causes Chronic Pelvic Pain Sindrome.Who I have to contact about this?
A: Can you enlighten me cos i’m also in pain and cant get docs appointment.
Q: What is causing my left pelvic pain and thigh discomfort?
I am having pain in my left pelvic area. It seems to travel down to
my upper thigh. It is very uncomfortable and it keeps me awake at night. What is causing the pain and discomfort?
A: It’s actually your lower back causing your hip to hurt causing it to radiate to your thigh. I have the same problem. I hate doctors and hate medicine so i deal with it. I think a chiropractor could do you and me some good.
Q: Are lower abdominal and pelvic pain really causes for concern?
I have been having lower abdominal and pelvic pain on and off for weeks and have had them at other times in my life. A few weeks ago, I started to get heart burn really bad and more constipation than usual, even though I’m never regular. This has also happened before. I was under a lot of stress, so it makes sense. I was diagnosed with IBS yesterday and they told me that this pain is probably associated with it. I fit the symptoms of IBS to a tee and after introducing more fiber today, I already feel better. I read today that endometriosis can be associated with IBS. The pain is always there during my period and apparently that can be a sign. So I called a nurse at my school’s clinic to ask questions and she acted like I made that information up and that I need to come in for a pelvic ultrasound immediately. No one said anything about that yesterday, they acted like it was no big deal. It’s dull pain that comes and goes, it’s not severe. I have normal periods and am not at risk for STDs and have been tested a few times for them, have protected sex every time, and my blood and urine tests were normal yesterday. Is this really a big deal? I don’t want expensive procedures done that might not be covered completely if it’s not necessary. Should I get another opinion?
A: I would have expected the internist who diagnosed you has already considered that pelvic pain could be due to an infection or problem with those reproductive organs. And yes, it could just as well be due to the IBS not being treated as well. If you have had all normal tests, then the most prudent treatment course would be to deal with the IBS. Anytime you have colon irritation in a female, you can have all the organs in the pelvis and abdomen complaining as well. Everyone just gets irritable, sort of like one aggravated person can upset a group of people. The nurse is likely more experienced dealing with young college age ladies, for whom the symptoms would most likely be due to pelvic infections. In that case, a pelvic ultrasound and other tests would be sensible. If I were you, I think I would continue with the IBS diet for a while and see if that doesn’t let things settle down. You are not in a lot of pain, evidently- at least not in the pelvis, from what you say. You have normal periods, and there is no particular reason to suspect any kind of pelvic infection really. Just stick with your doctor, and the diet, and go from there. If the pelvic problem doesn’t settle down, then the opinion you want would best come from a gynecologist anyway- not a school clinic nurse accustomed to treating coeds for STD’s.
Q: Pelvic Pain?
Since late June early July I’ve been having constant pelvic pain that has been increasingly getting worse.Physical activity causes the pain to get worse but once I rest for awhile it will return to normal. It’s at a point now where I really don’t want to even walk around because it hurts too much.
I’ve had 2 ultrasounds done which came back normal and a panel of blood tests which also came back normal.I also had a papsmear which was normal.
My gyneocologist put me on Birthcontrol for 3 months to see if it would help with the pain but it hasn’t at all.She was thinking it might be endometriosis because before I was put on birthcontrol I was having spotting between periods.
Also once the pain started my periods got way lighter than my usually heavy flow and became irregular (anywhere from 16-45 days, before my cycle was 35-37 days).Since starting birthcontrol my period has returned to it’s usuall heavy flow.
I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this might be?
Also every few months I have “flair ups” which is when the pain gets really intense. It usually lasts around a week and then goes back to the normal pain, sometimes a bit worse.
A: If you’ve had all those tests done have you considered that it may be your muscles and not your organs? That does not sound fun, I would suggest a massage therapist, it couldn’t make it worse but it might make it better. A lot of pain in my abdomen is actually caused by the muscle. Good luck!
Q: Can missing your period for a long time without pregnancy cause pelvic pain?
I’m undergoing many tests,(blood,CT,ultra, etc) and have been experince these types of pain. No periods for about 2 years
A: Not enough info, how old are you, family hx, sexual hx, better let you doctor figure this one out.
Good luck.
Q: what causes pain in the lower pelvic region and lower back on the right side?
the pain goes all the way from front to back
A: It could be different causes, appendix, ovarian cyst, ovulation, kidney infection, muscle strain, see your doctor.
