Q: a female problem, i have been having sharp pelvic pain while urinating, and also noticed IUD string is shorter?
i have an IUD, and in the past couple of days ive noticed the string is shorter i can hardly feel it. also when i urinate i have sharp pelvic pain sometimes.

A: You need to go see a doctor. When you had the IUD put in didn’t they tell you that you need to see the Doc if anything changes in its position? If not, they should have. I would say the pain makes it even more important that you see a Doc, soon.

Q: What was the sharp pelvic pain this morning?
I am 36 weeks pregnant and woke up this morning to a sharp, searing pain in my lower pelvis. It was the pain that woke me and I felt the need to get up and “walk it off.” Could it have been my side sleeping position, or is this normal (descent) activity for late pregnancy? Should I expect it to happen again?

A: Nope it just happens; Im 37 weeks and I’ve been having those since 30 weeks it’s very common and when i told my doctor she said it was normal. It’ll happen many more times. If it’s lasting for seconds at a time and is constant it could be contractions but if you just get one or two it’s normal.

Q: 32 weeks Sharp pelvic Pain what should i do?
I’m a little over 32 weeks I have been having Sharp shooting pains in my pelvic area for a few weeks they last sometimes like 20 or 30 seconds. Today they have been the worst and I am having almost period like Cramps I don’t know if I should go to the hospital this is my first Child and I don’t know a whole lot. Please let me know what I should do…

A: Call your doctor. When i was preg with my first, i had the same pains at 32-33 weeks. I was checked and was in preterm labor, and already dialated. So i was put on bedrest. It could just be the braxton hicks, but i would call the doctor just to be sure. I had to be put on a fetal monitor 3 times a week for about 3 weeks to watch the contractions. Just talk to your doctor. Email me if you wanna talk about this.

Q: sharp pain in pelvic side when I sneeze?
I am not pregnant, I have only been able to find this answer in the pregnancy area, but this has nothing to do with a baby.
So, when I sneeze I get this sharp stabbing pain in my lower pelvic region on the side. What is this?

A: Sounds like a muscle strain.
Probably inflamed – suggest ibuprofen

Q: 37 wks along with extremely sharp pelvic pain and a watery white discharge on & off?
Its been happening on & off for 2 days, what could be causing this?
this is my 3rd child, but with my first my waters broke, with my second i didn’t realise i was in labour until i went to get checked n found out i was 5cm dialated.
so im a little confused!

A: I had the watery discharge.. well have the watery discharge and the doc told me tuesday it is normal as long as it isnt leaking down your leg. Sucky i was hoping my water broke lol. I get sharp pelvic pain t the point i have to stop what im doing and cant walk for a second, usually after i use the bathroom.. not sure if thats what you are talking about but doc said thats normal too. I dont like the waiting game… GL!

Q: I am having sharp pelvic pain at 37 weeks… Could I be in labor?
It’s a sharp pelvic pain that goes up my belly and my belly hardens as well… Very uncomfortable and lasts about 1 min and is every 3-4 minutes. Could this be labor?
It is a sharp pain that travels up my belly and lasts anywhere from 30 sec to 80 sec. It’s every 4-5 minutes. This is my 3rd and the hospital is 30 minutes away and I don’t want to travel all the way for nothing. Please help!

A: sounds like really intense BHC..

if you were in actual labor, you wouldn’t be on the computer right now… lol good luck!

Q: 32 weeks with sharp pelvic pain?
Hi i am 32 to weeks pegnant wit my first and i’ve had sharp shooting pelvic pain for about two weeks starting since my baby dropped. I understand why, but now that sharp pain sometimes lasts 20-30 seconds…so could this be braxton hicks??? but i thought they were suppose to be cramp like if you felt any pain with them at all.
any ideas? or experiences?
thanks

A: Welcome to the berfore labor pains or braxton hicks. All I can say is try and do what ever you have planed to do during your birth so you can get use to it. I use to heat up a weat / heat pack and try to breath through them. Yes some times I screamed because they were so painful but please try and not use any pain killers unless you speak to your doctor first.

Q: Is a miscarriage about to happen? (bleeding, sharp pelvic pain, etc.)?
Hi my girlfriend is 9 weeks pregnant. She had a miscarriage in april ago. She has been experiencing normal pregnancy symptoms, back pain, frequent urination, etc. For 4 or 5 days she was experiencing very sharp pains in her pelvic area that were extremely painful. The pains got a little less strong. The pains then came back as strong as ever a couple days later and this time she bled. She was wiping after she urinated and found a relatively light amount of blood down there. When she went a little later there was more blood when she wiped. The bleeding then went away for a couple days while the pains continued. In the past four days, she started off with somewhat heavy bleeding which has gotten lighter, and heavier and lighter and heavier over these days. Her pains have been so severe at times that she could barely walk around. However the bleeding has not yet become what I would call heavy. The bleeding however is definitely red and the bleeding is constant, albeit somewhat light. She changes her pads so often that I’m honestly not sure how light the bleeding actually is.

Also, she has not had morning sickness as bad in the last couple days or so as she was having earlier on in her pregnancy. It is important to note we went to the doctors 2 or so weeks ago and told him about the sharp, bad pains, and he said that she was close to a miscarriage and put her on bedrest. I should also note that she is only 4′11 100 pounds. Can anybody help me decipher this situation? Btw, doesn’t spotting only happen during the first week after fertilizaion? Also,I don’t know if this helps but the most the bleeding has ever been really(keep in mind she changes her pads very often) is to the amount of say a normal period, thank you. Albeit while the pain in her pelvic area has been excruciating

A: I ANSWERED THIS HOURS AGO AND SAID YOU NEED TO TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR. IF SHE’S BEEN BLEEDING FOR DAYS SHE COULD HAVE ALREADY MISCARRIED! WHY DO YOU STILL SIT ON YOUR ASS ASKING PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW? (WE AREN’T DOCTORS!)

Q: Sudden and reoccurring sharp stabbing pain in Pelvic area, what does that mean?
I am 15 dpo, AF was due to show 2 days ago but I think I ovulated a bit late, according to my calculations I should get my period today but I have no sign of it what so ever instead I am experiencing some sharp stabbing like pain in pelvic area, I wonder what does that mean, I had some mild cramps now and then but that’s about it, anyone can help?
I should mention that I have a regular period every 27 days.

A: cramps.

Q: Sharp pain in pelvic area… is this ovulating?
I used to get really sharp pains in my pelvic area before I started taking the birth control pill. Were these pains signs of ovulation? My mom and sisters used to get it also. I used to happen around my period.

And no, it’s not cramps. It’s pelvic pain. Really really really sharp and excruciating pelvic pain.

A: Ovulation pain is also called “Middleschmertz”. It is sharp pain however, it would happen mid cycle….not just before your period.

Sharp pelvic pain just before your period could be a sign of ovarian cysts or endometriosis. I would go to your doctor next time you get that pain. They would do a pelvic ultrasound to see if it is cysts. When you were on the pill, you do not produce follicles nor do you ovulate, hence the reason for not having any pain. Birth control is frequently prescribed for those who have ovarian cysts to try to shrink them. If you find out that you do have ovarian cysts, this increases your risk for ovarian torsion (ovary twisting…cutting off blood supply to the ovary and then the ovary dies). When this happens, it is extremely painful as well and requires emergency surgery.

You don’t necessarily have to wait for the pain to come again to go to the doctor. You could go at any time now to let them know about this sharp pelvic pain that you have. The would still do an ultrasound. If you want to have kids in your future, you should get this checked out and controlled before it is too late.

Good luck.

Q: Why do i have a sharp pain in my pelvic area while having sex?
when im having sex wit my man… everytime i lift my legs up in the air i get a really sharp pain in my right pelvic area… but its weird cuz when my legs are down it doesnt hurt its only when i have my legs up or on his shoulders… im getting really piss cuz at first this never happened but now it hurts alot wen hes pounding away… i need help i want to fix this..

A: thats coz he penetrates better in that position.. he’s actualy just hurting u.. tell him to go a little easy in that position.. rest is alright

Q: Sharp pain in pelvic bone at 9 months pregnant?
So I have this sharp pain on the right side… its right in my pelvic bone… and its constant.

Its like there is a knife stabbing into my pelvic bone 24/7… is this just normal 9 month pregnant crap like my midwife says (who I don’t beleive really listened to my concerns) or has anyone else had this and had something wrong?
No major contractions, some minor ones like 3 a day.

Babies head has been really low my whole pregnancy.

A: Your baby is pushing down on your pelvic area. But the sharp pain you say you are having should not be there 24/7. To give you peace of mind go to L&D to be checked. You could be having some contractions and not know it if you are having this stabbing in your pelvic area. Yes the pain in your pelvic area is going to be strong and hard from time to time. Your baby is trying to make way for her or his big day. Go to L&D to be checked and give you peace of mind. God bless

Q: Sharp pelvic pain????????????
I have a sharp pelvic pain that only lasted like 10 seconds but it felt like something was constently poking me on my insides i have has my apendix out already i have had one c-section over a year ago and im about a week away from my period i dont know if its any thing to worry about??

sorry im a crapy speller =]]
Could i really be ovulating a week befor my period?

A: Any chance you are ovulating? Sometimes women (and i am one of them) experience ovulation pain called “middleschmirtz”. This can be actually quite painful for some. Take some ibuprofen and tylenol and relax. If the pain continues go ahead and call your doctor.

Q: Sharp pelvic pain that continued up my side?
So i woke up in the middle of the night last night with this sharp constant pain on the right side of my pelvic area, but my whole side was also hurting, but the worst part of the pain was in the pelvic area. It wasn’t excruciating, but what I was worried about was that it could be appendicitis. At first I tried laying on all sides, Right, Left, Stomach and Back and none of them were comfortable so I just stayed on my back for a while. Then I transferred back to my left side and the pain decreased drastically, but did not fully go away. So then after laying on my side for a while I transferred to my stomach and the pain had still subsided enough that I could go back to sleep, and when I woke up it was totally gone. Does anyone know what this could have been? I have yet to feel anything like this so far in my pregnancy and I am 15 weeks but it just kind of scared me more than anything. Thanks.

A: A lot of women experience pubic or pelvic pain during pregnancy, and I can remember my doctor telling me this, as I also had experienced the same thing, and went in and saw him and talked to him about what I was experiencing, and he gave me some information, that was so helpful, and I am glad I kept it, because now I can share it with you.

At his point in pregnancy, your ligaments (which connect bone to bone, and are responsible for joint stability) have not softened or stretched that much.

If your pubic bone is unstable, you will feel pain directly on the center of the joint, right in the middle, where the two bones connect. Groin pain is more commonly felt just off to one side. And groin pulls/injuries are notoriously slow to heal.

As for what to do and not to do…

Avoid picking up all heavy objects.

Always sit in a neutral spine position, with lower back support, thighs parallel to the floor, knees bent at a right angle, both feet flat on the floor.

Avoid all sitting positions that bend or twist your pelvis and spine. Do no try to stretch the area to relieve pain. Unstable joints should never be stretched.

To relieve flare-ups, use an ice pack for 10 – 15 minutes, to reduce inflammation. When using ice, always wrap the ice pack in a thin towel or other material. Never place an ice pack directly in contact with skin.

Q: 14 wks pregnant with sharp pelvic pain?
My friend is 14 wks pregnant with her 2nd baby an shes having reallly sharp pelvic pain when she goes to cough, sneeze,or when she goes to yell and sometime she says it does it when shes just laying there. I asked her on a pain level on how bad she hurt 1-10 an 10 bein the worst she said bout a 8 or 9 when it started hurting. Anyone know what might possibly be happening!
she also said when it does start hurting it doesnt last for a long time. An she didnt have this with her first! Shes gotta doctors appt comin up an shes gonna tell them but were both curious to what it might be anyone ever had this happen?
yeah but should it hurt being her stuff has been stretched out already its just been 11 months since her last! She had the pain with her last but it was around her hip area not in the middle! but i told her what everyone said thanx guys =]
i wrote that wrong.. she had pain with her last but not this type of pain!

A: It has something to do with the uterus stretching to accomidate the baby.
I get like that when I sneeze, cough, blow my nose or anything like that. My doctor told me it was normal though.
I don’t remember getting like this with my first pregnancy but I seem to be getting alot of it now that I’m 10 weeks along.

Q: Doctors can’t find anything wrong? Could this be Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome?
A few months ago after abdominal pain I was after tons of tests diagnosed with ibs. Around this same time I developed left side groin pain with a pain that is inside my penis and seems to only effect the left side. Its a weird pain. Like a pinching/prickly feeling that which I can sometimes feel a funny pain in my abdoment. Its more of a huge discomfort than pain. Intitially they thought I had prostatis and treated me with antibiotics but for like a week I felt better and then it all came back and after several more antibiotics no improvement. the doctors and uroligist say they can find nothing wrong. Could this be chronic pelvic pain syndrome?

A: I’m not sure if this is what you have. I recommend you see a doctor of rheumatology because I feel your problem could best be diagnosed by this type of doctor.

Q: What cardio is allowed for someone with pelvic pain?
What cardio would be best/safest for someone with chronic pelvic pain syndrome? I heard that cycling should not be done. What about running, rowing and elliptical machines?

A: Try pool therapy exercises.

Good luck.

Q: Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist- What to expect?
Hi-

I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome and I have been referred to a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist. I’ve never heard of this! Has anyone been to one before? What should I expect? Any stories/warnings are appreciated!

A: You will be instructed in exercises, and biofeedback. A lot of patients do well. I know people who have been and therapists that do this. It is not my speciality, howwever. Best wishes.

Q: Is there pain involved with chronic fatigue syndrome?
My doctor has done every test possible to find out whats wrong with my legs and pelvic. I have had pains, like an achy, heavy , and tired discomfort for a long time…he has done every test possible to rule out everything else. Now he says it could be chronic fatigue syndrome. I have also been diagnosed with depressions years ago and havn’t gotten any better, even with meds. I am tired of feeling this way. Is there any cure?

A: In major depressive individuals, and bi-polar individuals, muscle pains are actually quite common.

As with chronic fatigue syndrome, it’s quite a possibility that could be the reasons for the pains, as the muscles get tired, they could cause an achy and uncomfortable feeling.

I have chronic depression myself, and also get the same exact pains your talking about. Hope this helps.

Q: chronic pelvic pain…?
for the past few months ive had this on and off pelvic pain on my left side that sometimes causes my back and upper thigh to hurt as well. could it be endometriosis? a cyst? or just irritable bowel syndrome?

also can you have pelvic inflammatory disease without having sex? im a virgin but i wasn’t sure…

A: It could be any of the conditions you listed. I don’t think you can get PID as a virgin unless you got some sort of severe infection (not an STD) that was left untreated for a long time. You should talk to your doctor, if they dismiss your pain, find another. If you have other family members with endo, cysts, or IBS it would be more likely for you to have them. Hope you feel better! I know how much of a pain it can be… I have endo and cysts…

Q: Is this a case of getting your just desserts?
Seven months ago my father left my Mum after 28 years of marriage for another woman he’d been having an affair with for five years.

He has just been diagnosed with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome, a condition which causes varying degrees of discomfort plus, pain on ejaculation and sexual discomfort..

I can’t help that feel like justice has been done! What do you think? Harsh or fair?

A: Well it is poetic Justice alright. The next thing you will find that the one he now loves can not handle having to look after a decrepit old man. Your mom should take heart in that he is no longer with her and if she had stuck around him – she would have to nurse him for the rest of his life….

Q: could I possibly get benefits?
A woman, at the warehouse where I work, use to be a social worker. She said that I should be able to qualify for disability benefits. I am 30 years old. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes(taking metformin) and hypertension (take lisinopril). I also have severe migraines (take replax as needed). I have ulnar neuritis (pinched nerve in both funny bones per EMG) which doc says will likely require surgery-though due to the psoriasis on my elbows he’s worried about infection. I also have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) with chronic pelvic pain. I have had severe back pain since April and my mother reminded me that I was diagnosed with with scoliosis when I was 12. I know that these are very minor things in comparison to other people but they do make it very difficult for me to work. I was a housewife up until 3 years ago so I don’t have many social security credits.
The pinched nerves cause me to wake up every hour or so due to tingling in my hands. I have fmla available 2 days a month (though I miss more than that) but I still lose pay.
I have been married since ‘96.
I do inventory work in a warehouse so I am constantly on my feet and moving. I also do a lot of lifting(up to 75 lbs). I guess I should say that is what I am supposed to be doing. My assistant supervisor has been trying to help me out…but he will get tired of that come peek. Luckily they have a point system at work where you can take 12 points for abscences, each last up to 3 days…but I am out of those and my vacation was used on my tonsilectomy. I can’t afford to not work I carry the insurance (my husband would pay $190 a week for the same insurance that I pay for $53)……I just don’t know how much longer I can do it. My whole body just feels really heavy. The physical theropist today said that I am dont have very much strength in my hands for the work I am doing, according to her measurments. I just want to feel better…This is getting really old.

A: The scoliosis thing, unless it’s been debilitating and has stopped your normal life’s functioning, is something to just put aside. I have scoliosis too but it doesn’t hinder me and my life at all so, if you’re like me, you can’t now suddenly claim it…… especially since it hasn’t seemed to have made a negative difference in your life from the time your were 12 to now, when you’re 30. If you go for benefits, they DON’T like to see you picking at straws, just pulling up anything and everything, regardless of if it is relavent to your case or not. That will go against you more than it will work for you.

You were a housewife until 3 years ago so you don’t have much S.S. credit, you said. Were you ever married, especially up until that time? If so, you can go on your husband’s social security credits, even if you’re divorced from him. There are restrictions to this law/rule, of course. Maybe you can check http://www.ss.gov and see if there is info. there that can help you?

I am on S.S> disability and get checks each month. But, I am not able to work. That is a primary factor. I have a severe back problem caused by a severe auto accident and I’ve had 3 surgeries since.

Look in your local yellow pages under attorneys and see if you can find a listing for attorneys who specialize in social security disability claims. They would be the best people to tell you if you have a chance at collecting disability from the goverment. That’s what I did. I had an attorney file papers for me. They were rejected and then he appealed or whatever he did and I won.

But, again, “I” cannot work and I had medical documentation to prove that. If you can get a letter from any of your doctors to say that you have a permanent disability that doesn’t allow for you to work, then that would be good for your case. BUT, here again, social security can and probably will then send you to their doctors to confirm and verify these findings before they will grant you disability benefits.

I think that ESPECIALLY since you’re only 30 years old, it doesn’t matter what your social worker friend told you, you really have to have good proof that you cannot work before you will be granted social security benefits. And, believe me, the amount you get isn’t that great. You might be better off working as you are now. That might bring home more money than the benefits would.

Or, you might be better off working for some time if you were never married and, therefore, don’t have your husband’s social security credits to share. Right now, from what you say, there is no history of a work record or money paid into FICA or Medicare or whatever. You have to work a certain amount of time for certain S.S. benefits.

If you sincerely cannot work (then you’d better stop working to prove that), then if all the above doesn’t apply, you probably can be eligible for Medicaid or some other low income assistance. I’m sure your social worker friend can direct you to the proper place to go to, to apply for these various benefits to help you.

Good luck.

EDIT: Maybe you can check the yellow pages (phone book) for an attorney who specializes in disability and social security. That’s who I used when I needed to get social security disability after a bad car accident because I can’t work anymore. BUT, if you succeed in getting social security, that will give you Medicare benefits but only you. Your family will be on their own. That’s also what happened to me and, wouldn’t you know it, my daughter then had appendicitis and had to have surgery and we had no medical coverage so I was paying that off for years. You’re really in a tough position. Couldn’t you try to find work doing something else that’s not so physically difficult?

Usually lawyers charge a flat fee for this service.

Q: PLEASE HELP ME! I feel like I’m going to break, Horrible vaginal pain?
I have never been sexually active in any form. I have had many tests to find out what’s wrong but they don’t know. Any opinions? I am having horrible vaginal pain, it feels like someone is stabbing me most the time. Other times it is just a dull ache. I am not pregnant, and I don’t have a vaginal infection of any kind. I have had two X-Rays, and an ultrasound. No cysts were found. I also get horrible pain in my pelvic area I feel like crying because its so raw and feels like I’m being cut with glass shards. This has been going on for many months. I also have rectal burning constipation/diarrea which they treated me with Irritable bowel syndrome, but meds seem to only cover up the problem not solve it. Anyone have any opinions or suggestions as to what this could be? I am 16 years old my periods only last 3 days instead of 5, the pain in my vaginal area is so bad if its not burning its aching, or its sore. I always feel the burning but it become intense during my menstrual cycle and the worst after my cycle then it dies down till my period comes again.

I know it sounds like I’m exaggerating but trust me this pain is not normal, I’ve been missing days of school were I can’t even functiuon because the pain is unbearable I’m trying really hard to make sense of this pain and I know they don’t see anything wrong but what I am going through is unbearable I can’t live like this, I am already on antidepressants months before so its not like I’m not being treated phycologically speaking

I’ve looked into endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia all my doctors refuse to diagnose me with any one of these chronic (unexplained) disorders

I’m fighting a silent battle here and even if I do have any one of those condition will it even help me or solve my problem or will I be in chronic pain for the rest of my life, will it be so bad that I won’t be able to hold a steady job and will be bedridden. I realize I sound crazy but months of chronic burning UNexplained pain can do that to a person.

A: I’m a nurse, not a doctor. I would have said endometriosis. Keep going to different doctors. You may have to go out of town to a different doctor if you have seen all of the ones in your area. Tell them your symptoms but don’t tell them what other doctors have seen you. This way you will get an honest opinion. Some doctors will review your chart from the previous doctors and just go with that because they are busy. If you don’t tell them you have not been to any others then you will more likely get the answer you need. I hope it is not anything serious. I had fibroids, and endometrosis for years along with severe pain and in the end had a hysterectomy. I never had children. I hope that doesn’t happen to you. The right doctor and answer are out there just go about it the way I said so you get an unbiased answer. I wish you well.

Q: I am bloated and have pressure on my bladder 24/7. What could this be?
I am bloated and have heavy pressure on my bladder 24/7, irritable bowl, and yeast infections. Doctors have done exploratory surgery and a MRI, but nothing is showing up. The only answer they can come up with is that I may have Interstitial Cystitis (interstitial cystitis (IC) refers to a clinical syndrome characterized by chronic urinary urgency (feeling the need to urinate immediately) and frequency (frequent urination) with or without pelvic pain. The term “cystitis” refers to any inflammation of the bladder. In contrast to bacterial cystitis that results from an infection in the bladder, no infectious organism has been identified in people with interstitial cystitis. Interstitial cystitis is diagnosed when the symptoms occur without evidence for another cause of the symptoms). However, doctors say my bladder looks healthy. Does anyone know of anything else this could be? Have had the same symptoms and a doctor was able to diagnose it? Any help is appreciated!

A: I would recommend having a cystoscopy with hydrodistention to confirm whether or not you have IC. I would also recommend that you insist on being put on an antibiotic (Macrodantin or Augmentin) because you may have an infection that has mutated and is not showing up using conventional cultures, etc. Those two antibiotics work the best for specific bladder infections. I am not a health care professional, but I have lived through exactly what you are going through. Good luck.

Q: Do fat people understand that Bariatric Surgery is not easy way out?
The following is a list of possible side-effects and complications to consider before having weight-loss surgery. We will discuss these in more detail at your office consultation.

1. Anastomotic leak (leak from a connection made to the bowel, usually requires re-operation and long hospital stay)

2. Anastomotic stricture (narrowing or obstruction at an intestinal connection resulting in vomiting)

3. Bowel obstruction/strangulation/internal hernia/ischemic bowel possibly needing removal (associated with pain and vomiting, usually requires re-operation)

4. Injury to an abdominal or pelvic organ/structure (especially the liver, spleen, pancreas, bile duct, stomach, esophagus, colon, bowel, diaphragm, urinary bladder, nerve or blood vessel)

5. Conversion to an open operation (due to bleeding, poor exposure, large liver, tension on intestines, etc.)

6. Incisional hernia (more likely if procedure is done open)

7. Infection or abscess (due to a leak, spillage of intestinal contents, underlying infection, etc)

8. Bleeding and the potential need for blood transfusion. Blood transfusion carries the risk of infection with bacteria, parasites (malaria), and viruses (hepatitis, HIV/AIDS).

9. Need for additional surgery or procedures to treat any complication that may occur

10. Prolonged hospital stay or readmission may be needed to treat complications

11. Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot in a vein)

12. Pulmonary Embolus (blood clot going to lung, fatal 30% of the time)

13. Atelectasis (lung collapse causing fevers, possibly pneumonia)

14. Pneumonia, lung infection and fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion)

15. Heart attack (myocardial infarction)

16. Stroke

17. Pancreatitis

18. Rhabdomyalysis (breakdown of the muscle in the body)

19. Pressure ulcer or decubitus (skin breakdown, may require skin grafting)

20. Allergic reaction to anesthesia, medications or materials

21. Nerve or ligament injury from positioning or lying on the operating table

22. Kidney failure and/or the need for dialysis

23. Need for ICU care

24. Need for a ventilator (machine to help you breathe)

25. Multi-system organ failure (liver, kidneys, lungs, etc.)

26. Poor cosmetic results (ugly scar, keloid, unattractive incisions, contour defects)

27. Chronic pain, discomfort, numbness, burning or tingling in the incisions or anywhere else (abdomen, back, extremities)

28. Transient or chronic nausea/vomiting due to strictures, gastroparesis, food intolerance, etc.

29. Dysphagia (difficulty or painful swallowing)

30. Diarrhea, constipation, foul smelling gas and stools

31. Heartburn (acid reflux) symptoms

32. Ulcers or gastritis

33. Intestinal perforation due to ulcer, foreign body, obstructed food, etc.

34. Development of food intolerances/loss of taste

35. Dumping syndrome (abdominal pain, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, diarrhea)

36. Hair loss or thinning

37. Development of malnutrition or vitamin deficiency

38. Anemia

39. Metabolic bone disease (loosing calcium from the bone because of inadequate intake and supplementation) with possible osteoporosis, secondary hyperparathyroidism and bone fractures

40. Failure to lose an adequate amount of weight

41. Loss of too much weight

42. Development of loose or redundant skin

43. Sterility or inability to become pregnant

44. Increased ability to become pregnant

45. Birth defects or fetal injury if you become pregnant. This is less likely once weight has stabilized and laboratory tests are normal. Usually, about 2 years after surgery.

46. Postoperative depression or other psychological reaction to surgery

47. Need to revise or reverse the procedure at some point in the future because of nutritional deficiencies, excessive weight loss, pain or other reasons

48. Extended disability, financial hardship as a result of complications related to weight loss surgery

49. Parts of your stomach and/or intestines will be inaccessible by endoscopy.

50. Death (1% nationwide) within 30 days

A: It’s just amazing how thousands and thousands of people have actually survived this surgery and are now healthy and happy. How long would your list be if you listed all the things that morbid obesity causes in a person. It would be much longer and certainly more serious than those you listed. You get this surgery to save your life. It has done that for my husband who is doing just great with it. He hasn’t had a single problem yet other than getting adjusted to eating the right amount to not feel so full. He has lost 80 pounds and feels great. He is so much more active and actually takes long walks all the time. His energy level has skyrocketed. He started planting a garden yesterday and doesn’t need anyone to help him get down on the ground to do it which he hasn’t done in many years. He doesn’t get out of breath like before. His blood pressure has dropped enough to lower his medication for it. Obesity caused him to have both his knees replaced and it still bothered him. Now he no longer has any pain in his knees, and he walks with ease. Next week, we are going to start riding our bikes. I always have had to do it without him, but no more. He is going along with others family and friends. This surgery has done much more for him than anyone can imagine. I don’t know why you want to keep running it down, but it is a real lifesaver to many people. Yes, there are risks. But the real question is whether or not the risks of staying obese are greater than the surgery. Most doctors will agree that obesity is the bigger risk for anyone morbidly obese. My husband loves his new life without all that weight. He knew all the risks before he had it done. It was well worth taking those risks for his good health now.

they found 5% blood in my urine the normal amount is only 3%, also my thyroid was a bit low

A: They’re difficult to find, but a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor disorders. They may be able to help you with diagnosis and treatment. Best of luck.

Q: Can anyone help with diagnosis of health issue described below?
I am 29yrs old mother or 3, have definitive dx of congenital bilateral dislocating hips (need dbl rplcmt), narcolepsy, cataplexy, interstitial cystitis w/ hunner’s ulcers, brain dysautonomia from CO poisoning. I also have the following chronic sx: neuropathy in my finger tips and feet, pain n muscles and joints (early onset of osteoarthritis), nodules on skin, extreme sensitivity to smells, low range bp around 108/60, dizziness upon standing, motion sickness, raynaud’s phenom, recurrent shingles, sob, easily contract staph and strep skin infections, slow to heal, fatigue w/ intermittent insomia, memory loss both some st & lt, also had pelvic organ prolapse resulting in surgical repair such as hysterectomy, tvt, etc. which my body rejected the graphs used and cause numerous problems.

I am at a loss of what to do, I had to switch family dr and when I go to dr or any medical facility other than my specialist I am treated like a drug seeker and hypochondriac! I know my sx are real th major onset was 8yrs and over the past 6months my sx are so severe I can no longer ignore them. I have tried to research syndromes and diseases because I know that all these sx have to fall into something or maybe I’m a case study all alone. Its very frustrating to live like this at 29 and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I also seem to have adverse reactions to almost every medication so I try to steer clear of those also. (Sorry if seems like rambling…also adding details as I think of them. will gladly answer any ? to further detail) Anyway, hope someone out there might have some insight and help point me in right direction….Thx!
Saw neuro at onset but not since, they didn’t find anything at the time but since that time have found out med hx ie co poisoning and sx have become mush more severe.

Currently see urologist weekly for bladder tx, ortho for hips, fam dr is internist but a crappy one & sleep specialist. Someone rec rheum’gist & ortho suggest genetic testing his concern is connective tissue disorder like ehlers danlos on wait list but growing impatient…need to find shorter avenue for dx if there is one…give this further info anymore suggestions?? thx again for any and all insight!

A: I would suggest that you see an internist and an infectious disease doctor. Keep your chin up, you are physically ill, don’t let yourself think anything but. Do you get migraines or headaches with nausea? Have you had a heart echogram with bubble injection? Have you been tested for lyme? There is a retro virus XMRV similar to HIV that was discovered some 18 years ago but left to spread in our blood supply. It is the third known retro virus. Please check out the whittemore institute, they are also on facebook where you can talk to others with similar illnesses .http://www.wpinstitute.org/

god bless

A: Those unexplained diagnoses are just descriptions of symptoms anyway. The dont tell you the cause. If you are having pain that is not associated with any type of discharge or internal tissue changes, you need to look into it being related to nerve impingement. But you could have herpes- it feels like that. Or like shingles. both of those feel like that. Get an MRI on your low back and have the doc look at your discs. All of your symptoms are related to the same region of nerve plexuses in that area.
Other than that I would suggest you get a test for herpes, too.
Good luck my friend.

Q: Any tips for chronic pelvic pain in women?
My mother has severe Pelvic pain since her ablation is there any she can do other than pain pills?

A: She may be able to try something like a heating pad or even consult a physical therapist to see if there might be something out of alignment, but because of the pain she’s still having since her procedure I would recommend that she see her doctor again for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

Q: what are the causes for deep pelvic pain in women?suggest clinical and laboratory investigations and treatment
suggest step-by – step approach for diagnosis and treatment of deep pelvic pain in women

A: Any patient presenting with pelvic pain should be considered initially for a diagnosis of Endometriosis.

Upon presentation of pelvic pain, patient should be prescribed a course of NSAIDs or oral contaceptives.  If successful, maintain drug therapy.  If not;

Rule out obvious pelvic pathology through Doppler. If evidence of other pathology is found, treat accordingly. If no pathology is found or if Endometriosis continues to be suspected, proceed to operative intervention.

Removal of all disease from pelvis and surrounding abdominal cavity through meticulous exicison offers best success for long term relief and improved fertililty.  Where operator is limited in excision skills and/or excision is otherwise impossible, extensive vaporization and restoral of normal pelvic anatomy is recommended.  If successful, watchful waiting for symptom recurrence may be adopted.  If failure;

Course of Aromatase Inhibitors, Danazol, GnRH agonist or other suppressive medication may be warranted for a course of 6 months.  If successful, watchful waiting may be adopted.  If failure;

Patient should be referred to tertiary treatment center specializing in excision of Endometriosis and/or RE for IVF protocols if pregnancy is desired.

There are lab tests which can diagnose Endometriosis; likewise, diagnostic intervention such as MRI etc. are not definitive. Surgical diagnosis is required. CA125 elevations are not accurate, as the levels are elevated in women with Endo who do not have malignancy.

Suggest following protocols offered at specialty centers such as Redwine, Albee, et.al. – www.endometriosistreatment.org, www.centerfornendo.com for – best patient success.

Q: Are there other women out there with undiagnosed pelvic pain after having a C-section?
None of my friends have had problems after their c-section, but I am still having pain after 17 months after having my baby. I even had adhesions removed 3 months ago, and that helped, but I still feel like I am lugging a cement bag in my pelvis. Just curious if anyone else experiences, as misery loves company!

A: I have had 3 c-sections and yes , i feel that way too. But i have bad ovaries and they always lay my pain on that and scar tissue. I have had a partial hysterectomy, but nothing has helped pelvic pain, and i’m really not sure why since they always tell me its scar tissue. Good luck….

Q: does prolonged sex abstention or having no sexual relationship cause pelvic pain in women?
mother of one has had no sexual relationship for more than ten years and has pelvic pain which is not responding to treatments.

A: oh yes. cant say why but it happens too me and my god-mother your pelvic is so used to the stimulation, and it aches when it isn’t messed with. i would sill go to eh doctor cause i found out i had fibroids. and scar tissue.

Q: Sharp Stabbing Pelvic Pain!! Women/MD’s please read!?
I am having a lot of pain in my pelvic area. it feels like my ovaries are being stabbed, along with what feels like my uterus, but I guess i’m not sure. Its been off and on jolts of pain for about a month, and these past 3 days, its a continuous dull pain with very sharp stabbing pains off and on, even in my sleep. I am getting concerned.

I am 21,and I haven’t had regular periods for almost 4 years. I sometimes go without a period for 6 or even 10 months at a time. I’d say I’ve had menstrual-like bleeding about 8 times in 3 years. I have been on the pill for 7 years, and use as prescribed.

I also have high risk HPV and get checked ever 6 months. I guess i’m concerned about cervical cancer, and also pregnancy, since I probably wouldn’t know if I was, since I dont ever expect to have a period.

Please shed some insight if you know anything about gyno health or have experienced something similar.

A: I had the same thing and was told that I have cysts on my ovaries.

Q: pelvic pain women?
ok so i had my peirod on the 8 of may and my boyfriend and i had sex on the 27 of april but he came on the beding not on me i also took to pills that night cause i had just started takingthem again cause my boyfriend was in africa last week the top of my pelvic area hurt alot i could not sleep on my stomach and this week i have to pee all the time like every five minutes and when iam done peeing my bladder still feels like i have to go i went to the doctor today and she checked my urine and said noting came up and today i feel nueases all day like vomit in my throat its gross i dont think iam pregant because i had my period after having sex but iam not sure what is wrong with me any advice or suggestions please

A: You could possibly have an ovarian cyst or a ruptured ovarian cyst.

An ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sac located near the ovaries. Cysts can occur anywhere in the body and are normally non-cancerous and not harmful when left to heal itself.

However, a ruptured ovarian cyst can potentially be very harmful and can produce Life Threatening symptoms.

A common cause of when ruptured ovarian cysts can occur on the ovaries is when you do not release enough luteinizing hormone. This causes eggs to remain attached onto follicles and later develop into cysts and eventually into a ruptured ovarian cyst.

Ruptured ovarian cyst symptoms will vary depending on the individual. However, here are some typical symptoms that could be linked to ruptured ovarian cysts:

- Menstrual irregularities
- Pelvic pain, a constant or intermittent dull ache that may radiate to your lower back and thighs
- Pelvic pain shortly before your period begins or just before it ends
-Pelvic pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)
- Nausea, vomiting or breast tenderness similar to that experienced during pregnancy
- Fullness or heaviness in your abdomen
- Pressure on your rectum or bladder, difficulty emptying your bladder completely.

If you suspect you may be suffering from ruptured ovarian cyst and also experiencing severe pain then it is best to consult your doctor or to visit the hospital.

I wish you the Best!! =)

Q: why do women have vaginal spotting& pelvic pain even after 15 days of first sexual intercourse?
my sis in law is complaining how every morning she’s been feeling pain and spotting. its been 15 days of her marriage, but the spotting and pain doesnt seem to go away. she also menstruates 1 week ahead of time of her normal menstrual cycle..plzzz help..

A: It sounds like something else is going on here. Maybe she should see a doctor?
I know that didn’t happen to me or anyone I know after we had sex our first times.

Q: Question about pelvic pain in women?
Has anybody ever pelvic pain that turned out to be something related to their bowel? I’ve been having pains in the very low right quadrant of my abdomen for several months now and have been getting investigated for gynaelogical problems. But nothing much turned up. I’d had an ultrasound done about 3 wks ago which showed that the two previous cysts that I had were now gone But I’m still having a significant amount of pain so I’m wondering if it might be coming from the colon>

A: I know someone who had pain like that if you’re getting pain and you’ve ruled out gynaecological problems then I think you should look into other stuff like the colon good luck.

Q: Women only. Pelvic pain?
okay. about 2 weeks ago i started to have pain in my pelvis. it started off in one side and is now in both. My period was late and when i got it it was irregular. i’ve made a doctors appoinment but i am just curious if there is anybody who has gone through this and knows what it is…i’ve looked on the internet but i don’t want to start assuming…but i am getting really worried about what it is. if you have any info that would be great..
i’m not pregnant. No chance i have an STD.

A: First off always check if you are pregnant. You can still bleed into many months of being pregnant. If not then move on to other possibilities. There is no way anyone here could diagnose or even guess what is going on but it could be your ovaries. Sometimes ovaries hurt, especially during ovulation…and the pain is call Mittelschmerz ….it means middle cycle pain and is a real phenomenon.
But separate of what the doc’s may say I wouldn’t take a gander without scaring you. Just goto them and demand a full work up….blood, test for STD’s and pregnancy and anything else. Better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck!

additional: glad to hear that! then have your organs checked thoroughly to rule out other stuff. ask if it could have been your ovaries acting up while ovulation??

Q: pelvic pain in women?
hi
i am having off and on pain in my pelvic area since last couple of month but from last day it has gotton worse. here are the symptoms i am feeling can anyone tell me whats going on with me.
1. Pelvic pain specially at right site.
2. constant urges of urine but come very little.
3. having pressure on rectum along with bloating in tummy.
i just want to mention that last month i had my Gynecologist exam and she said everything is fine with me.
Non seriouse people don’t bother to answer; also, the one who have no clue.

A: are you having regular bowel movements? you might be “clogged” and that is putting pressure on your bladder and causing pain and may be why your gyno found nothing wrong in your front area. Try laying off the cheese and go get you some fiber. Eat whole grans, apples and get some cranberry juice. Good luck

Q: Women—–have you been diagnosed with Chronic Pelvic Pain due to Endometriosis? Have you been recommended to?
a Pelvic Pain clinic and did the treatment work?

A: Nope, working through it right now. It’s been about 5 Months in, tons of tests, 4 hospitalizations, and not much to show for it. (a few cysts, they say are unrelated) and this morning I had an ultrasound. Turns out my uterus is prolapsing.. not just tilted. it points down and is starting to turn inside out. I still have an EGD scheduled for March and a colonoscopy.. but, ya, it’s been fun.

No pain centers yet, they are still working on diagnosis, but after this morning , that is exactly the direction they are leaning.

I feel ya, mama! Hope you find some releif soon! Oh, my doctor did give me some Oxy.. and a few brochures on Pelvic Pain, Dysmenorreha and Ovarian Cancer. If you think of any questions, I can look and share.. I remember when glossy brochures were only for fun things … like Vacation!!

Q: Pregnant women with Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)?
Since i was about 12-14 weeks into my pregnancy i’ve been experiencing pain in my left buttock, i originally thought it was damage to the sciatic nerve because i’d fallen a few weeks before the pain begun, my mum also had sciatica and described the pain the same way i described mine.

The thing is, the pain never went away, infact it’s worse, i looked up PGP and it seems that my symptoms are exactly the same as the symptoms you get when you’ve got PGP and those are similar to sciatica, so i understand why i’ve gotten confused.

So has anyone had PGP? Is it serious? Should i mention it to my midwife or just leave it? Will it go away after the birth? Tips of coping with the pain?

A: I have it. I had it with my daughter 5 years ago and it stayed with me until she was about 1 year old. Painful. Now i’m 35 weeks 3 days with my second child and it came back. I’m hoping it might go away earlier this time. There isn’t really much you can do. Just try to stay off your feet when the pain is worse. Prop your feet up above you heart. The doc’s just say “yeah some people get it and some people don’t and your jsut one of those “lucky” people who get to have it” blahh
I’m sorry you have it. I have PGP and SPD both. yikes I think i also have gallstones this pregnancy for me has not been very comfortable.
Wish you luck

Q: mature women please, pain in pelvic area.?
I know I should go to a Dr, but I am broke and am in between health insurances.

okay, so a couple weeks ago I started to get this really bad pain. It is right next to where my pelvic bone sticks out, to the right of it, that little area that doctors usually push down on when you go for a checkup? well it hurts when it is pushed down, and if I am sitting and I move a certain way it will feel like a sharp shooting pain. Also last night and a couple nights ago while my boyfriend and I were having sex, it really hurt, especially last night. sometimes I wont notice it and other times, it will be this constant dulling pain when I am going throughout my day. Also when I had my period last, I only had it for about 2 or 3 days and it was really light, and mine is usually light, except on the first 2 days it is really heavy.

anyone know what it could be, I have a couple idea’s but im not really sure.

thanks for you imput.

A: Abdominal/pelvic pain that is similar to that of period cramping may indicate a problem in a reproductive organ (like the pain around your ovaries or uterus).

This includes conditions such as endometriosis (when tissue from the uterus is displaced to somewhere else like the pelvic wall or ovaries), uterine fibroids (thick bands of muscular and fibrous tissue in the uterus), ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer (rare), or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) infection of the reproductive organs, usually from a sexually transmitted disease.

If you have pain in your ovary area, you might have an ovarian cyst. I have experienced that same type of pain whenever I have had an ovarian cyst. I was also diagnosed with endometriosis last year which caused me severe pelvic pain and intense and painful period cramping.

If you’re experiencing pain during or after sex there may be several factors that are contributing to the pain you feel. For women there are a number of physical conditions that may make sex hurt, including:

* Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
* Endometriosis
* Ovarian cysts
* Interstitial cystitis
* Vaginismus
* Vulvodynia
* Some sexually transmitted diseases
* Urinary infections
* Yeast infections
* Vaginal dryness
* Physical injury and chronic pain

Based on your symptoms and what you wrote, I would recommend that you should see your doctor/gynaecologist, just to rule out any serious causes.

Good luck

Q: causes of women’s pelvic pain?

A: lots of things. fibroids, ovarian cysts, bladder infection… see your doctor.

Q: What could be causing left pelvic pain in a woman?
I was diagnosed w/ endometrosis about a year ago, but there was very little there and I have had minimal pain (outside of my periods) until a few days ago. My normal pain is on the right side and yesterday I suddenly developed moderate/severe sharp left sided pain that seems to come and go. I’m going to schedule a dr. appt, but am wondering what could be wrong in the mean time?
There is no chance of eptopic pregnancy.

A: if it was around mid cycle it could be ovulating pain

Read and learn more about pelvic pain causes. For more, visit the Chronic Pain website ChronicPainFAQ.org

Q: I suffer with pelvic pain. What causes it?
I suffer with pelvic pain and sore breast and no I am not pregnant. What causes it and how can I live pain free.
I suffer with pelvic pain and sore breasts all the time not just post or pre menstrual.

A: Endometriosis is an implantation and growth of endometrial [uterine lining] tissue outside of the uterus, which can result in a variety of problems, including pelvic pain,or it could be
urinary tract infection .. i took tylenol. advil ETC for pain

Q: What causes chronic pelvic pain?
I have been suffering from chronic pelvic pain for several years, have had 3 surgeries for this, and still suffer daily from this. I am even thinking I have PCOS. I am ready to change Gyne’s as I am not getting any relief and am tired of living this way!

A: That’s a difficult question I don’t think anyone really knows and I think it kinda also depends on your symptoms.

Personally I reckon it’s caused by Trigger Points in muscles
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigger_point) and an inbuilt pelvic focus for stress.

There’s a good book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook Second Edition by Clair Davis which gives a good introduction to Trigger Points.

Also http://www.pelvicpainhelp.com by Dr. David Wise is a pretty good site. It’s targeted more towards men but has a growing female section (http://www.pelvicpainhelpforwomen.com/).

Apart from that hot baths, stretching and relaxation are good for it.

I’ve had this for about 3 years 365 days a year. The first year was absolutely f*$kd up but after finding help from these sites (my doctors sucked) I’ve improved a lot.

Hopes this helps you with your pain.

Q: what causes pain in the pelvic, hip and lower back region during pregnancy, and what helps relieve it?
My fiance is 25 weeks pregnant, and is a fairly active person, but now she is experiencing pain and discomfort in her pelvic, hip and lower back region. Keep in mind this is someone who walked daily and loves to walk.

A: Hmmm, I’m actually not too sure about this one. Later in pregnancy, when the baby flips to the head down position and then later when he or she drops, it puts pressure on those areas, but I can’t see either of those things happening at only 25 weeks.

Send her to the doctor to find out.

Best of luck and congrats on the little one!

Q: What are some causes of chronic pelvic pain and could they be related to irregular periods?

A: Endomirtiosis. its a cellular disease with no cause and no cure,1 in 5 women have it. how it works is whenever a woman starts her period radical cells from the lining that are supposed to be expelled from the body via the period actualy go to other places throughout the body. they then turn cling to organs and turn into scar tissue, causing many issues. the commen symptoms are:
1. Painful periods
2. heavy/irregular periods
3. pain during sex
4. headaches
5. low grade fever right before/during period
6. fatigue
and many more but some women have no symptoms at all.doctors tend to miss this disease if they are not looking specificly for it.but time is a factor as the longer you have it the worse the symptoms get and it eventualy causes infertility if gone untreated.

Q: What causes pain in the pelvic, hip and lower back region during pregnancy, and what helps relieve it? ?
My fiance is 25 weeks pregnant, and is a fairly active person, but now she is experiencing pain and discomfort in her pelvic, hip and lower back region. Keep in mind this is someone who walked daily and loves to walk.

A: its the baby putting pressure there. sometimes it will just be from the baby’s weight, other times the baby will be sitting on a nerve or tendon.
a massage always helped me, or a hot water bottle. make sure she rests with her feet elevated higher than her heart everyday, it will help with her circulation and swelling.

Q: What are causes of pelvic pain, other than ovarian cysts, at 16?
I am 16 and have been experiencing pelvic pain for a few months. The pain seems to be worse when i have my period, which i get regularly for about 5 days. I went to the doctor and they sent me for a ultrasound and they found a 1 or 2 cm cyst on my ovary. The gyn said after my next period we would get another ultrasound to see if it was still there. We did and it was still there, same size and everything. I was just put on Loestrin 24 today, and i know that it takes a while to see any changes. I’m not a dr or anything but i don’t see how so much pain could come from such a small cyst. So that leads me to believe that something else is causing the pain. I also have pain on the left side (my cyst is on right ovary) at times too. They said if the cyst was still there or pain still continues after 3 months of BC then i would be sent for an MRI. Is there anything else that could cause pelvic pain at this young of an age? I’m a virgin, so STDs and things like that are ruled out. I constantly have discharge when not on my period, and my breasts are very tender. I’ve also been very emotional and somewhat depressed lately, i’m not sure if that’s a symptom of something or just my hormones speaking.

A: Ovarian cysts can cause severe pelvic cramping, which could very well be the cause for the pain that you are feeling. You are right too when you say that it might take a while to see any changes since you only just started taking the pill.

Abdominal/pelvic pain that is similar to that of period cramping may indicate a problem in a reproductive organ (like the pain around your ovaries or uterus).

If you have pain in your ovary area, it might not only be caused by your ovarian cyst, but you may have endometriosis. I was also diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007 which caused me severe pelvic pain and intense and painful period cramping and severe pain feeling like a knife stabbing me around my ovaries..

Based on your symptoms and what you wrote, I would recommend that you should see your doctor/gynaecologist, just to rule out any serious causes.

Good luck

Q: What causes pelvic pain?
For the past 2 days I have had really bad pelvic pain when I walk. It worries me some. Don’t know if I should go to the doctor or not! Does this mean that the baby has dropped or is this normal. This is sever pain.
I’m 8 months pregnant!

A: i have a pain in ma pelvis
i dont thin the babys dropped though
i think its when the baby gets engaged, for me anyway, but it could be the baby dropped
the main reason i know to though is the ligaments an bones an that getting ready an widening for the baby to come
just mention it to your midwife next time you see her

xxx

Q: pelvic pain what causes it?
I have pelvic pain mid cycle for the past few weeks (3 weeks) 7 days ago i was constipated and i thought that was why but i did have it a week before and i was not constipated. Ive been gettign it today and a sharp on and off pain on the right and mainly left side today and feels like the right side of my back is bruised. What is this?? Im due in 9 days.
Im taslking period Im not pregnant

A: possibilities are – PID, ovarian cyst, ovulation – check in sections INFECTIONS, DYSFUNCTIONS and GENERAL INFO accordingly

Q: Is pelvic pain and lower back ache always a sign of uterine cancer?
What other things besides cancer can cause pelvic pain with lower back ache?
Never had a UTI but it does not hurt to pee. Have had pain for one month now. Sometimes back hurts so much when I stand up its terrible.

A: The most relevant piece of information needed here is the person’s age. Pelvic pain and lower back ache alone are not symptoms of uterine cancer at all and are not typical symptoms. 97% of uterine cancer patients present with vaginal bleeding which is significant as 85% occur in postmenopausal women and it is rarely found in women under 40. Low back pain can be caused by several things and is one of the most common complaints there is. Pelvic pain is too non-specific to know the cause. So these symptoms combined could be caused by many things, but uterine cancer is not likely to be one of them.

Q: Recently I discovered what exactly causes Chronic Pelvic Pain Sindrome.Who I have to contact about this?

A: Can you enlighten me cos i’m also in pain and cant get docs appointment.

Q: What is causing my left pelvic pain and thigh discomfort?
I am having pain in my left pelvic area. It seems to travel down to
my upper thigh. It is very uncomfortable and it keeps me awake at night. What is causing the pain and discomfort?

A: It’s actually your lower back causing your hip to hurt causing it to radiate to your thigh. I have the same problem. I hate doctors and hate medicine so i deal with it. I think a chiropractor could do you and me some good.

Q: Are lower abdominal and pelvic pain really causes for concern?
I have been having lower abdominal and pelvic pain on and off for weeks and have had them at other times in my life. A few weeks ago, I started to get heart burn really bad and more constipation than usual, even though I’m never regular. This has also happened before. I was under a lot of stress, so it makes sense. I was diagnosed with IBS yesterday and they told me that this pain is probably associated with it. I fit the symptoms of IBS to a tee and after introducing more fiber today, I already feel better. I read today that endometriosis can be associated with IBS. The pain is always there during my period and apparently that can be a sign. So I called a nurse at my school’s clinic to ask questions and she acted like I made that information up and that I need to come in for a pelvic ultrasound immediately. No one said anything about that yesterday, they acted like it was no big deal. It’s dull pain that comes and goes, it’s not severe. I have normal periods and am not at risk for STDs and have been tested a few times for them, have protected sex every time, and my blood and urine tests were normal yesterday. Is this really a big deal? I don’t want expensive procedures done that might not be covered completely if it’s not necessary. Should I get another opinion?

A: I would have expected the internist who diagnosed you has already considered that pelvic pain could be due to an infection or problem with those reproductive organs. And yes, it could just as well be due to the IBS not being treated as well. If you have had all normal tests, then the most prudent treatment course would be to deal with the IBS. Anytime you have colon irritation in a female, you can have all the organs in the pelvis and abdomen complaining as well. Everyone just gets irritable, sort of like one aggravated person can upset a group of people. The nurse is likely more experienced dealing with young college age ladies, for whom the symptoms would most likely be due to pelvic infections. In that case, a pelvic ultrasound and other tests would be sensible. If I were you, I think I would continue with the IBS diet for a while and see if that doesn’t let things settle down. You are not in a lot of pain, evidently- at least not in the pelvis, from what you say. You have normal periods, and there is no particular reason to suspect any kind of pelvic infection really. Just stick with your doctor, and the diet, and go from there. If the pelvic problem doesn’t settle down, then the opinion you want would best come from a gynecologist anyway- not a school clinic nurse accustomed to treating coeds for STD’s.

Q: Pelvic Pain?
Since late June early July I’ve been having constant pelvic pain that has been increasingly getting worse.Physical activity causes the pain to get worse but once I rest for awhile it will return to normal. It’s at a point now where I really don’t want to even walk around because it hurts too much.

I’ve had 2 ultrasounds done which came back normal and a panel of blood tests which also came back normal.I also had a papsmear which was normal.

My gyneocologist put me on Birthcontrol for 3 months to see if it would help with the pain but it hasn’t at all.She was thinking it might be endometriosis because before I was put on birthcontrol I was having spotting between periods.

Also once the pain started my periods got way lighter than my usually heavy flow and became irregular (anywhere from 16-45 days, before my cycle was 35-37 days).Since starting birthcontrol my period has returned to it’s usuall heavy flow.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this might be?
Also every few months I have “flair ups” which is when the pain gets really intense. It usually lasts around a week and then goes back to the normal pain, sometimes a bit worse.

A: If you’ve had all those tests done have you considered that it may be your muscles and not your organs? That does not sound fun, I would suggest a massage therapist, it couldn’t make it worse but it might make it better. A lot of pain in my abdomen is actually caused by the muscle. Good luck!

Q: Can missing your period for a long time without pregnancy cause pelvic pain?
I’m undergoing many tests,(blood,CT,ultra, etc) and have been experince these types of pain. No periods for about 2 years

A: Not enough info, how old are you, family hx, sexual hx, better let you doctor figure this one out.
Good luck.

Q: what causes pain in the lower pelvic region and lower back on the right side?
the pain goes all the way from front to back

A: It could be different causes, appendix, ovarian cyst, ovulation, kidney infection, muscle strain, see your doctor.

Q: Pelvic pains..?
I’m in my early 20’s and a virgin, and I’ve been getting sharp pains in my pelvic area for about 14 days now that hurt to the point I am doubled over in pain gasping for air until they are over with. The last one was Saturday, but since that one, I’ve had a dull achey feeling all around that area and in my lower back. My period is late too, it is about 9 days late now. I’ve been stressing a lot lately, but haven’t these pains been going on too long to be regular menstrual pains? What else could they be?
I am not, nor have I ever been on any form of birth control and I’m not taking any medicines at this time, either.

A: i suggest u consult a doctor for ur problem, preferably a gynecologist

Q: Pelvic Pains?
I am having sevre pains in my pelvic area. I had the Mirena IUD put in 8/22/07. I havent been hurting at all until just recent. I am just wondering if anyone can help me. My health Insurance is gone so I can’t just go to the doctor. Please help me

I don’t have multiple partners so I know it isn’t a STD.

A: Its possible that it is not in properly. It might need replacing. I personally dont like an IUD, but it works well for others. No one else but a doctor or clinic sr can help u with this. So, go see a doctor.

Q: Why am I feeling pelvic pains and why is my urine cloudy?
I am kind of worried because i have been feeling pelvic pains and also when i would lay down I would feel like throwing up. Lately when i would sit down I would feel a sense of dizziness. Also, i am always losing my appetite. Another thing is I happened to find from one day to another that I had a small amount of blood on my eye ball. I mean it wasn’t gushing or anything and it wasn’t spilling but i was sort of worried because it has so far stayed for about 3 days, Can anyone help me?

A: only way to find out what is wrong is going to a doctor. it could mean a whole number of things.

Q: I am 38.4 weeks pregnant and have been having really bad pelvic pains?
I have been getting sharp pelvic pains and a bit of cramping. Last night my stomach was rock hard and my pelvic pains were so bad i could hardly stand up. Then i was having some period like cramps. They went away so i went to bed but at 5:00am i woke up to more period like cramps. Could this be labour starting?

A: Early labor can start that way, but if you are having pain that is all in the front, not wrapping from the back or the cramps are what actually woke you up, I would go have it checked out.

Early contractions do feel like cramping and definitely can be very painful, but your description doesn’t really sound like it.

Sharp pelvic pain is pretty normal when the baby is really low. Not to be crude, but I used to tell my husband that it felt like someone was stabbing me “in there” and would lie down. It was just due to the weight of the baby pushing down.

I would still go in. I suffered with long early labors with both of my kids, but didn’t quite have what you are describing. Just to be safe and ensure that you are not one of those women who don’t have the typical contraction pain and aren’t actually going into labor.

Q: Are sharp pelvic pains normal to still have at 16 weeks pregnant?
I’ve had no bleeding, and heard the heartbeat at a walk in clinic this morning.

I get the annoying shooting or sharp pains further back than normal. Anal almost and sometimes down my inner thigh. Is this normal?

A: Yes it is normal and will continue through the whole pregnancy. A large uterus is not well supported and, just hurts sometimes as it grows. As baby gets bigger they tend to get worse and move to all different areas as baby can kick nerves. Good Luck

Q: 38 weeks pregnant and having bad pelvic pains when I lay on my side.?
I have no pains when I lay on my back (for about 15 minutes) but I know its not good to lay on your for a long period of time. Has anyone else experience this and why does this happend? I have to struggle sleeping sitting up.

A: I have severe pelvic pain and the dr has attributed it to where the baby is laying. (they think my first son may have broken the bone) Try using the wedge pillow and sleeping/laying on your left side. The pillow helps take the pressure off your hips. If it persists or starts to hurt when walking you can get a maternity belt that will lift your baby bump up a little. A pillow between your knees may help too. Good Luck…not too much longer…baby will be here any day now!!

Q: 35 weeks pregnant with sharp pelvic pains?
I am 35 weeks pregnant with number 2, when i walk around my pelvic area hurts like no other, the doctor told me when that happens to sit down; well i tried sitting and all i got was more sharp stings and more pain. It also hurts very bad, like i am on verge of tears when she moves around. Any idea why it hurts so bad?

A: If it feels like pain in your bones, then it sounds like symphasis pubic disfunction. That basically means your pelvis is separating. I’d see a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy.

Q: Im worried. Are pelvic pains normal during early pregnancy?
I may be overreacting. Im six weeks pregnant and all day I have started having pains in my pelvic region. They are more on the mild side, but I can still feel them, and it worries me that something may be wrong with the baby. Any one have any advice or similiar experiences. and also, how well protected is the baby inside me. cuz Im always paranoid that I’ll do something to hurt it. How much pressure would have to be put on the stomach or the pelvic region to possibly cause a miscarriage. Thanks.

A: No your fine Im 10 weeks pregnant and when I was 6 weeks I had the same problem and went to the hospital and come to find out it was just my uterus stretching so don’t worry it happens when your baby is growing everything is fine just worry if there is blood

Q: What does it mean when I get nauseous and get pelvic pains right after sex? ?
I never get throw up sick, but enough where I want to lay down. It usually goes away after a little bit but it’s starting to weird me out. it’s been going on for like a week now. Strange?
Going to fill in some blanks. I am not nervous about sex. I am married and would love a baby, but I have been on birth control religiously for the past 8 years.

A: are you nervous about the sex?.. does it make you uncomfortable? Is it something your.. “not supposed to do”… otherwise.. i dunno.. you may be pregnant.. as terrible as that might come as a shock.. it’s not completely out of the question (since you didnt supply contrary data)..

Q: I am 38 weeks preg. and am constantly uncomfortable and having sharp pelvic pains, should i go to the hospital?
I went for a check up on the 4th and she said I am thinned out completely and dialating, I even had a contraction in her office. She said she thinks I won’t make it much longer and even doubted I will see her next week. But now I’m miserable and am wondering if I should go to the hospital now or not. Can someone help me please.

A: Wait until the pains r five min apart so they don’t send u home
Congrads!

Q: 36 Weeks Pregnant with Pelvic Bone Pains?
I am 36 weeks pregnant and every day I am stricken with horrible Pelvic Pains, They dont hurt much when I walk but mostly when I am getting in and out of bed or turning over, Mostly when my legs gets spread open to a certain amount. What Does this mean? Is it Normal?

A: Q. I read the questions about vaginal swelling on your web site and talked to my doctor about my own swelling. The doctor did not examine me and basically said it was varicose veins. I can’t tell you how much the vaginal swelling hurts. It also bleeds a little. It is limited to one side of my vagina. Do have any relief ideas? This is killing me! I am going to make that doctor look at this swelling when I go back. Why doesn’t anyone talk about “cheeseburger crotch”?
-Anonymous, Alabama

A. You may have venal thrombosis, which can be much more uncomfortable than varicose veins. If a vein has squeezed out through the muscle wall and gotten pinched, it may balloon up with blood. This condition can be very painful and definitely needs medical attention. I had the same thing happen to me, but it was a thrombosed hemorrhoid. That was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced– worse than childbirth, believe it or not!

Do have your doctor examine you ASAP and be sure to mention how much pain you are in. In the meantime, keeping your feet and lower body elevated as much as possible may bring you some relief. You might also try a warm bath with Epsom salts.

As far as public discussion of a pregnant woman’s cheeseburger crotch, I think lots of people are too embarrassed to admit to this and many other odd symptoms of pregnancy.

These sorts of details, sometimes quite gross or embarrassing in nature, are important for every pregnant woman to know (at least in my opinion!). For example: No one ever told me that I may feel baby hiccups in my rectum; that my nipples were going to crack apart into dozens of small sections that resembled dried desert mud; or that I would be entitled to a “pregnancy card” that would be handy when cutting a toilet line of 100 people.

During my first pregnancy, I was truly annoyed that I couldn’t get this information from any book, doctor, or even my own sister. That’s why I wrote the book, Frankly Pregnant; The Reality Journal of Pregnancy during my second pregnancy. If other people won’t tell you about cheeseburger crotch, I will. I believe pregnant women need to know.

Q: 10 weeks pregnant and having pelvic area pains what should I do?
I am 10 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my 4th baby I am having some lower abdominal pain like in the pelvic area as well as in my hips I had a miscarriage in june and it feel different than that pain what do you think it is or what do you think I should do? I don’t know if I am just paranoid about having another miscarriage or if it is really serious I don’t want to overreact…

A: You are most likely having something called round ligament pain. Google it and you can read more about it.

I know its really hard to try not and start thinking negatively when you have encountered a loss before but try for you and your baby! Stress is never a good thing, especially when you are pregnant!

If its really painful or is accompanied with any amount of spotting or bleeding or strange discharge you should go into the emergency room or contact your doctor right away.

Have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Q: Is it ok to go on walks while getting sharp pains in the pelvic and vagina area?
37.5 weeks pregnant, 1cm dilated, 50% effaced.
I have been getting these pains for awhile but not they are alot stronger since the baby is actually moved down into the pelvic area. Does it hurt anything to keep walking with these pains or is it actually helping? (I mean walking as in going for a walk around the neighborhood)
Has this helped anyone get labor started?

A: walking can help you go into labor, because of the natural endorphens you produce. when pregnant women go into the hospital around their due date and are having trouble getting into full on labor, nurses and doctors will have them walk around to try to trigger labor, before inducing.

hope this helps, and good luck!
: )

Q: Back pains and pelvic pressure in my back?
I’m 33 weeks going on 34 weeks on monday and right now I keep having lower back pains and pelvic pressure in my back.Is this normal or what?It just started too.It sort of feels like my baby is pushing down really hard with his head cuz I can feel his feet like at the top of my stomach. It feels like he’s drilling down on my.So feels weird.Anyone else having this kind of pain?

A: I know what you are going thru. I’m 39 weeks and have been having back pain and lower pressure since 33 weeks. The good news is you baby is starting to drop so you are getting near the end. the bad news is the pain is only going to get worse. You might also start to get sharp lower back pains as he moves around or if you end up sleeping on your back. If you can walk or swim I suggest it highly. I swam up till 37 weeks and now I just walk and it seems to help. Good luck

Q: I am having sharp pains in my pelvic area. Could this be the start of contractions?
I’m 37 weeks exactly. The pains are kinda sharp, but only in my pelvic area and on one side. I have to pee more frequently, so I know he’s pushing down more.

A: They may be the start but sometimes its like this for a few days before you actually go into labor.
Pregnancy lasts 40 weeks from your last missed period so 37 weeks isnt too bad.

You should have everything ready for the hospital just in case your water suddenly breaks. (a gym bag with extra clothes, camera ready for pictures, anything else you think you might need)

My friends water broke in the middle of the night while she was in bed so be ready.

Good luck.

Q: wot is pelvic pain syndrome and how can i prevent it .?
i am female

A: kick yourself in the pelvic.

Q: Please help! if you have ANY experience please tell me about it! Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Pelvic Pain etc.?
I have been recently diagnosised with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have been to the hospital 5-6 times within the last 4 months with pain and complications. I have a long history of cyst problems and pain also on both sides of my parents family are multiple tpyes of cancers. Now with all this in mind I have had ultrasound that read things like:
free fluid in pelvis, coagulase positive staph, escherichia coli& possible 2nd gram,Klebsiella pneumoniae, double thickness of endometrial stripe 3.4mm, ovaries contain numerous peripheral subcentimeter cysts, mild prominrnce of right renal pelvis likely an atonic or extrarenal pelvis. What does all of those test findings mean? Im still having pain frequently and it comes on sudden and severe but nobody seems to “fix” the problem or know exactly whats going on? These are my symptoms as of right now: Right Ovarian/pelvic pain, Swollen Thyroid and Right Swollen Tonsil, Headache, Nausea, Vomitting, Fever, and (Crazy Abnormal Bleeding for the last 6 months) Can any help me? One of my doctors wants to test for Endometrial Cancer? Does anyone have similar issues?

A: Okay I am going to help you but I am going to explain to you one at a time so that way you understand and I can understand at the same time.

1. Double thickness of endometrial stripe means there is some endometriosis scarring.
2. You have a lot of numerous cysts on your ovaries from the side view of the US that was conducted.
3. Your going to have frequent pain because you have multiple cysts on your ovaries.
4. You can’t fix the problems of the ovaries without surgical removal of the cysts or the cysts rupture on their own causing severe pain.
5. I never heard of a swollen thyroid because the thyroid is the hormone in your body that balances weight, and other hormone regulated activity that can only be detected with an abnormality through blood tests.
6. Swollen tonsil, is completely seperated from PCOS
7. Headache can be due to issues with the pituitary gland.
8. Nausea and Vomiting can be because of the Head ache
9. Fever is completely seperated from PCOS also you may have a virus cold or flu
10. Abnormal bleeding is highly likely with PCOS cause your women parts as I call them are suffering irregular problems and so you are likely to bleed irregular of you may not bleed at all.

They want to test for the cancer because of the scarring. This can spread a lot of women end up having partial or full hysterectomy due to all these issues.

Q: Pelvic Pain?
I have pelvic congestive syndrome. I want to feel better so I don’t have to take pain medication. Looking it up the only two treatments are embolizim and a hysterectomy. My dr. said that the embolizim wouldn’t work because the area is so bad. So what would make him give me the hysterectomy. I want this problem solved and he says that I would have to try Lupron before surgery. Everything I read about this drug is TERRIBLE. Does anyone have any suggestions, or have any ideas of finding a dr. that would do the surgery? This has been going on for 3 years now. I am 25 (26 next month) and I already have children.

A: If you already have children, and this has been going on for some time, your Dr should allow the surgery. If he doesn’t you need to find a Dr that will.

Q: Is lower pelvic pain a symptom of Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

A: I have IBS and i do get lower pain in my pelvic region, its a sort of sharp pain nobody can really describe. If you go to the bathroom frequently, and are loose or soft, go when your stressed or nervous, it could be IBS. Otherwise it could also be just gas pains, simple as that. Try gas-x or beano and try those to see if they work, or go see a doc.

Q: Experiencing morning sickness. Nasuea, restless leg syndrome, sore breast, and pelvic pain. I’m a virgin!?
I’ve masturbated a lot (Not with men though) could i be pregnant? I’m scared!!!

A: oh geeze.
noooooo YOU HAVE TO HAVE SEX TO GET PREGNANT.
like p in v action.
sperm has to get into you vagina.

Q: pelvic pain?
my symptoms:
- pain in lower abdomen, switches sides (sometimes sharp, dull cramps or pulsing pain)
- recently, extreme menstrual cramps, heavy/dark periods
- abdominal pain after sexual activity sometimes
- lower back pain occasionally
- diarrhea and constipation

i am 16, and freaking out…i’ve been having these issues for a few months now. i’ve gotten an ultrasound done for ovarian cysts and appendicitis..came back negative. blood, urine, stool samples came back negative as well. i was on pills for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but they had no affect. i know something is wrong. i have a feeling it’s to do with my ovaries. please if you know anything, tell me
i am going for another ultrasound (external and internal) on friday.

A: I had similar symptoms with my fibroid but the first ultrasound should have caught that. Best of luck.

Q: Extreme Pelvic pain?
Lately I have been undergoing a killing pain in my left side of the pelvic its like knives ,but the pain comes and goes. I often urinate, and sometimes I get diarhea for no reason, today I feel so much soar and the pain is not stopping, as am pressing to type this message, I feel the pain each time I bend.
I am going to go to a doctor but I wanted to ask if someone has or know those symptoms who could tell me what it could me.
I am married, no kids, and I have Polycystic ovarian syndrome since I was 15 years old, i never get my period, and I used Clomid and other stuff but its not working.

A: It’s good to have your doc. check-you out she/he knows best & don’t e-mail or accept the advice from (Mary M), who doesn’t know anything about your body or health herstory.
Be careful.

Q: I have recently been diagnosed with Pelvic Congestion Syndrome….?
I have been recently diagnosed with PCS and was just hoping to get some more advice from another OBGYN. My current OBGYN suggested that I use birth control for 3 months and see my pain continues. I am on the 3rd month now and I am still having pain. I am hoping to hear of different methods of treatment. From reading various articles over the Internet I am under the understanding that there is a non-surgical treatment, a hysterectomy (partial and full), or using pain reliever medication. I appreciate any information you can give. I am at a loss and not sure where to go to. Oh, one more thing….if I do get pregnant while having this condition is it harmful to the baby or to myself in any way?

I also would like to know a little more information as to what I have. I really don’t understand what’s going on with my body and if it is dangerous just to deal with the pain. Should I go further into it and get a laparoscopy? Should I get a second opinion from another doctor? Why a hysterectomy? Is everything dying because of incorrect blood flow?

Listed below is some information from my understanding of PCS.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS) is a condition in which veins that normally surround the uterus and ovaries become stretched, swollen, and tender. These pelvic varicose veins, similar to the varicose veins that commonly occur in the legs, can cause severe pressure on the female pelvic organs. The blood in the large veins that drain the ovaries normally flows in an upward direction towards the heart. In the case of varicose veins of the pelvis, the valves in the vein that control blood flow are not working properly. The blood flows away from the heart and pools in the veins around the ovaries, the uterus and other pelvic structures, causing pressure and pain.

Sincerely,
Krista

A: Hi Krista,

I’ve had a laparoscopy on 4 days ago and while I was waiting to be diagnosed with cysts or fibroids the gyno told me my pain was related to pelvic varicose/varice so it seems we have the same problem. I am du to visit for a follow up in 2 weeks but what I was told is that yes you can live with it and it’s not dangerous. You can definitely have children and it won’t effect in any way. I am going to see at least another 2 doctors and will get their opinions as well. I was told that one of the other treatments apart from hysterectomy is called “embolization” this treatment is safer and is done by a radiologist. I say definitely get a second opinion and ask your doctor about embolization. I am new to all this as well but get as much info as you can before you consider anything. Good luck!

Q: I have Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, the Dr. said the only “fix” is a hysterectomy.? Anyone else had this done?
Extreme left side pain. About 3 years now. I want to have it done but just not sure if this is the way.

A: I have not had a hysterectomy for my Pelvic Congestion Syndrome but I know someone who did and did not have success.

I would also recommend getting another opinion from a doctor that does not share the same office of the doctor you currently see to find out if something else like endometriosis (giving an example only-I have this condition as well) could be causing this pain on your left side.

Q: Does anyone have experience with unresolved chronic pelvic pain?
I’ve had chronic pelvic pain for years. Several trips to the ER in excruciating pain. Finally dx’d w/adenomyosis and endometriosis and had my uterus and right ovary removed about 1.5 yrs ago. I’m now experiencing the same pelvic pain as before. I’ve had ultrasounds, CT scans, colonoscopy, but as of now have not found the cause. It’s horrible and makes daily life very difficult. I don’t sleep much from the pain.

A: Have you read “Headache in the Pelvis” by Anderson? The fourth edition has quite a bit more about women’s pain. It might be available at your library.

Q: Does anybody know individuals or organisations that can offer free medical care for chronic pelvic pain?
I have suffered from pelvic pain for about 5 years now. Doctors tell me I have chronic PID. Sometimes I also have ovarian cysts and bladder pains.

I feel like I am not receiving good medical care becuase, medicine is not helping any more. I get too much pain and I believe I need better medical care which I cannot afford.

Does anybody have advice for me or is there any other person who is faced with the same problem? Please give me suggestions. I am tired of being sick and I think I need a surgery too.

A: no i dont know but u can looking 4 to google.com i’m sure u will find someting if exist if not i cant help you.

Q: Is it okay to get pregnant while dealing with uterine fibroids and chronic pelvic pain?

A: This is definitely something you should talk to your doctor about.

Q: how do you treat chronic pelvic pain?
this is for my mother she is having chroninc pelvic pain, and she says it feels like a heavy object in her pelvic area, like a hernia, she has been to plenty of doctors but they are not treating her right they jus give her 800mg pain killers, and they said they can’t perform surgery becuase they claim my mother is overweight, but one doctor told my mother she needs to get her chronic pain dealt with before trying to loose weight, so can someone please tell me what to do

A: Have they considered sending your mom to a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic pain? Many times, addressing muscle inefficiencies, pelvic alignment issues, and muscular restrictions is helpful in relieving this discomfort. I, myself, am a physical therapist, but I do not practice in this arena. Therefore, I have included a website to the pelvic pain society where you may find a therapist near you.

Q: Pelvic Pain?
So i had an ovarian cyst that ruptured last month and I was in the hospital for it they just noticed i had clear pelvic fluid in me and they said it would just deteriate after time. About two weeks ago I had my period and it was so bad the cramps were two days before my period and even after and now Im just feeling pain like near my lower pelvic area. Ive been checked at by the gyno though 2 weeks ago and last week they did an ultrasound. They said there isnt anything in my pelvic region. I told my doctor about the pain and he said it could be IBS because I have been under so much stress for the last month and a half. I also heard it may be chronic pelvic pain. I just dont know what to think about it. I also once was using q-tips for 2 weeks to check my discharge to see for any unsualness going on. I just dont know what to think.

A: I would suggest a second opinion, just to be sure. You don’t want to be taking any chances.

Q: How do I get approved for SSI? I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and depression.
I am 29 years old,and I have not been able to work for 4 years, because of the pain. I had a hysterectomy over 2 years ago, and I am still in pain. In fact I have more medical problems, like Interstial Cystitis (IC), herpes, I have a problem being on my feet for long periods, I am on lots of medications-which most of them cause drowsiness; there are times that I have a hard time getting out of bed, because of the pain. I applied for SSI-atleast 3times and each time I was denied; now it is at the point that I meet with a judge, but that takes almost 2 years; I am not getting better, I am getting worse. Some attorneys don’t want to waste their time helping me, because of my situation.

A: Unfortunately, SSI is not sensitive to Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain conditions, but they are s-l-o-w-l-y beginning to understand the devastating toll diseases like Endo and IC are taking on women. Your story seems to be on par with others attempting to file for SSI; it seems it takes an average of 3-4 times over the course of a couple of years before it is approved. They try to make so hard that you’ll just go away, so don’t give up! It looks like you are on course, since you’re going before the judge now finally. You might be interested in the following:

“SSA Issues Ruling for Evaluating Interstitial Cystitis:
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has issued a new Social Security Ruling (SSR) that explains how the agency evaluates disability caused by interstitial cystitis or “IC.” Published November 5, 2002, the ruling became effective immediately. It is titled SSR 02-2p, “Evaluation of Interstitial Cystitis.” Applicants for disability benefits who have IC (and their advocates) should certainly review the ruling. SSR 02-2p alerts SSA decision-makers to the disabling potential of IC, a relatively rare disorder, and helps doctors of women and men with IC focus on the issues that concern SSA when providing medical documentation for disability claims. SR 02-2p calls IC, “a complex, chronic bladder disorder characterized by urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and pelvic pain. IC occurs most frequently in women (about 10 times more often than in men), and sometimes prior to age 18. IC may be associated with other disorders, such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, endometriosis, and vulvodynia (vulvar/vaginal pain). IC also may be associated with systemic lupus erythematosus.” Click to view the text of SSR 02-2p, or look in the Federal Register dated November 5, 2002, pages 67436-67439.” Link: http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/rulings/di/01/SSR2002-02-di-01.html

There is also a similar case file available at http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data2/circs/8th/051954p.pdf.

Your best bet is to go armed with valid literature outlining the devastating effects of Endo, IC, etc. and it helps to have an atty. on your side who understands the SSI circus. Maybe the Endometriosis Research Center can help you (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erc/pending). There are a few cases where women with Endo have been able to get it, so hang in there and keep trying.

Good luck to you.

Q: How do you cope with chronic pelvic pain? Is there a cure?

A: It depends on what the cause of the pain is. You ought to go to an experienced MD.

Google: mayo clinic>>diseases & conditions>>symptom finder >>pelvic pain…answer questions then submit.

Good luck to you.

Q: Anyone suffering from Chronic Pelvic Pain?
I’ve been suffering from Chronic Pelvic Pain for about a year and six months now. I’m 24 and a newly wed and its really taking a toll on me emotionally. The pain has just gotten worse and its seems like the doctors don’t care anymore. I’ve had a laparoscopy and it is Endometriosis…but I didn’t know endo could cause such excrutiating pain that I can’t do much anymore. I am so exhausted all the time. Most of the time I feel like I don’t even have an ounce of energy in my body. Is there anyone going through the same? If so can you please respond to this msg or email me.

A: You absolutely must visit http://www.endocenter.org and http://www.centerforendo.com – best places on the ‘net for help and hope. There is no cure for Endometriosis, but there are ways to cope – start by talking to others here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erc

Endometriosis CAN be treated successfully. The CEC (site above) is one place to start learning about excision surgery and how crucial it is to have ALL disease removed from ALL locations. It’s entirely possible to do so, but regular gyns don’t care enough and don’t have the skills to do excision. Check out the CEC and get some hope, also visit the ERC’s listserv and home page. Good luck, you’re not alone!

Q: Taking depo for chronic pelvic pain, its not working anymore?
I’m taking depo for chronic pelvic pain for three months it was working, but know my period has come back and the pain has worsened, i should also note that i had three surgurys, one c-section, a tubal ligation in 2004 then i still got pregnant in 2007 but it was an etopic pregnancy, I sort of feel the doctors are not taking me seriously any suggestions

A: Hi Fran. I was in a similar boat until recently. Years of hard and heavy periods. Four c-sections, a tubal ligation, chemically induced menopause, a failed ablation, etc. My big issue, aside from the painfull periods became never ending bleeding. I too felt that at a point the doctors weren’t taking me seriously. The kept telling me that I was simply aging, and that I should keep track of my symptoms. Ultimately, I did keep a record of my symptoms for an entire year. Then I shopped around for a FEMALE MD. I truly believe this made a huge difference in the way I was listened to. She immediately started investigating and after much discussion, I had a uterine hysterectomy three weeks ago. It turned out that I had quite the case of adnomyosis and a slight case of endomitriosis. Not to mention my bladder was completely adhered to my uterus. For the first time in years I am pain free and not oozing something. I can only suggest that you find a doctor that listens to you. I changed practices about five times in 10 years. Stay strong. Good luck!

Q: Has anyone suffered chronic pelvic pain early in pregnancy?
I am approx 20 weeks preg and have been having chronic pain in the left side of my pelvic/hip area for about a month now.. it is a dull pain that has some sharp pains throughout the day at first it wasnt too bad but in the last week it has gotten worse.. I saw my doctor yesterday who just blew me off and said just lie down when I feel the pain? I have been referred by my fam doc to a different doc and I am going back today after work. I was just wondering if anyone else has experience pain like this so early.. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I did have a prior c-section

A: I have been having similar pains and both my doctor and midwife told me that it was the ligaments stretching due to the baby gaining weight. I was also told to have a sit down when they occur if the pain gets a bit to much. My mum has had 2 c-sections and never experienced anything like. Hope all goes well for you

Q: Tips to help relieve chronic pelvic pain? Unknown cause so far.?
IUD inserted October 06, IUD removed May 2007. Pregnant in June, miscarried at 5 weeks. Chronic pelvic pain since February. I have an appt with a new doc 10/11/07. In the meantime, I have to manage and deal with that pain. Pelvic region, lower back, lasts from a few days before ovulation to a few days after period starts. Starts with slight back pain and progresses frontward like contractions. Sometimes its so bad I cant walk. I have to take like 4 Tylenol (500mg) to get any of the edge off. Ibuprofen or Vicodin dont do anything to the pain at all.

This will be the 3rd doctor I will go to for answers. Hopefully this one isnt a quack. So far, ive been told I have Endometritis, Endometriosis, Chlamydia, Scarring, PID, and even that its all in my head. These are all without tests…the docs were guessing. (Please read previous questions)

Ive heard this new doc is thorough and will try her best to actually look for whats wrong. But what can I do in the meantime to relieve the pain!
Please help… sometimes I cant even walk its so bad. I swell too…
Endometritis is real, its an infection of the uterine lining.
PS: We are trying to conceive too and this worries me so much. I worry that it will be something that will affect my fertility
SP… This is not menstrual pain. Thanks hon, but a light massage and a roll on a giant ball is not going to help. Im likely to end up crying in the fetal position. Ive studied herbalism for many yrs and this is not something I really want to take a little Dong Quai and White willow and “breathe through”. Thanks though. I know what you are trying to say. I think the alternative stuff might work as a complementary therapy though

A: Could be something else, although it sounds like endo to me. You ask a pretty tough question as I have found no over the counter treatment that has even put a dent in my pain. Only thing that works for me is vicodin, which you say doesn’t work for you. I do use a heating pad as turning it up as high as it will go sometimes takes the edge off, of course doesn’t get rid of it completely. I’ve heard natural progesterone cream works wonders in turns of pain for some women-havn’t tried it myself though. I currently take bc pills continuously so I never have a period and then heating pad and vicodin whenever needed. Don’t stress about your fertility though. I know some women will have a harder time conceiving with endo but that is not every women. Most are able to have children-even a large amount that are told by their dr.’s that it was impossible for them. When you go to the new dr. try to find out how knowledgable they are on endo. Endo can only be diagnosed through surgery and you only want a dr that is very knowledgable in endo to perform it. Make sure the method they use to remove the endo is excision-not burning it off and realize there is no cure for endo. Be weary of Lupron-if that drug is offered to you research it first!! I wish you luck and do hope you can find some pain relief soon.

Good luck!

Q: Why do I get pelvic pain in the righ lower quadrant everytime I have a period?
I have pain medial to my right iliac bone in the lower pelvic area above my pubic bone almost 1/2 way. After my period ends, the pain goes away. Its like a menstural cramp in the right side. I cramped here really bad after the birth of my daughter. Could this be an adhesion or is this normal? Anyone else do this?

A: Could be Scar tissue flaring up. Or could be an ovary flaring up. Get checked. It will only get worse. The docs can prescribe meds for inflammation

Q: I have been having lower pelvic pain for 2 months now. Ultrasound shows swollen fallopian tube?
I tested negative for any infection(STD). What else could cause this. I also have pain in my inner left leg and hip. No kidney stones. Any suggestions?
I had a tubal ligation 12 years ago & tested negative for pregnancy.

A: Did you doctor ever tell you about endometriosis? What was the cause of your swollen fallopian tube?
check out The Endometriosis Association for more information and see if any of it sounds familiar.
www.EndometriosisAssn.org
Good luck to you.

Q: What could cause lower pelvic pain?
I am a 39 year old woman, had tubes tied about 10 years ago and in the last week I have had pain in my lower pelvic area. Not on either side but more all the way across, from one side to another. It has just been off and on til today it seems to be a little more. It’s not horrible pain but it is noticeable and there are times that there are sharp pains with the constant pain…anyone have any idea what it might be…just started all of sudden and it’s not time for my period. I have a doctors appt on Tuesday but just thought I would see if anyone had any ideas what it might be..Thanks

Tamitha
Also want to add, not sure if it is related but I have also had changes in my bowel moments, been having a lot of gas and also having and/or feeling like have to urinate alot more then normal.

A: It could really be anything….lower back strain, kidney trouble, unrinary tract infection, or pelvic inflammatory disease. Do you have pain passing urine, or are running a temperature? The urine frequency……is it accompanied by foul frothy urine and pain? The bowel movement frequency and gas may be related to a lumbar injury, an infection, or simply because you’ve eaten something that causes it like curry or cabbage.
In any case, it’ll be advisable for you to have it checked out properly by your doctor.

Q: What does this sound like? Frequent urination, pain during sex (cervics), pelvic pain, lower backache,no stds?
lower pelvic cramps and leg pain where the pelvic area hurts… ?
Remember No STDs……

A: UTI (urinary tract infection) or a kidney infection. go to the doc. a simple pee test will tell you.

Q: Im 37 weeks 2cm dilated and 50% effaced.havent lost my plug yet.having lower back an pelvic pain is labor near?
I am 37 weeks Pregnant and 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. i havent lost my mucus plug that i know of yet and now i am starting to have a alot of pressure pain in my lower pelvic and back region. very tired all of the sudden also. do you think labor could be near?

A: Lets hope so. I am 2 CM, 37 weeks, 75% effaced and haven’t lost my plug either. I checked some pre-labor symptoms in What To Expect because I had a major nesting frenzy today and some signs your about to go include: the baby dropping of course which this is my 2nd so that hasnt happened,
increasing pressure in pelvis and rectum,
loss of weight,
change in energy levels, a burst of energy or increasingly fatigued,
change in vaginal discharge,
loss of plug,
your bloody show,
intensification of BH contractions,
and diarrhea.
The sad thing is it also mentions that these symptoms can precede REAL labor by a month or an hour… frustrating huh?

Hang in there. My pelvis REALLY hurts now from my earlier burst of energy and my back is hurting too…guess I overdid it… *sigh* Good Luck!

Q: 21 Weeks w/ Lower Pelvic Pain–Not Cramping Just Dull Pain. What is This?
The last 2 days I have had a lower pelvic pain that is dull & constant. It’s not a cramping type pain either so I’m not too concerned or should I be? Any of you experience this? Thanks.

A: Its just round ligament pain. Its from your muscles and uterus stretching to accomodate your little one. Its perfectly normal no worries

Q: Lower pelvic pain- only on one side?
For the last couple of days, I’ve been having a sharp pain in my lower pelvic area (I am female by the way), but it’s only on the left side. It’s especially when I sit, stand, bend, or lean.
Any idea what this could mean?

A: Could you be ovulating? I always get pain when I’m ovulating and it switches from side to side at times.

Q: I am six weeks pregnant and have lower right pelvic pain.?
The pain is really low near where my pubic hairline starts but off to the right. I only get this most of the time when I am sitting up, and it is very mild. I wouldn’t even call it pain, but I am not sure what else to call it. It seems like it is a little uncomfortable feeling happening every once and a while during the day. Is this normal? This is my first child and I don’t want anything to be wrong. It sort of seems like it is ON my pelvic bone. Any ideas?

A: The cyst the previous poster is referring to is the corpus luteum cyst. It is the follicle that the egg was released from during ovulation that swells and produces progesterone. It will continue to produce the hormone until your are about 10-14 weeks pregnant and the placenta has developed enough to produce its own progesterone. This cyst and the pain associated with it is completely normal. Do not worry but do mention it to your doctor so he/she is aware. Best of luck to you and enjoy this special time.

Q: Pelvic lower pain 24/7?
I have lower pelvic pain and it’s very sharp and very painful. Evidently there is NOTHING that can be done to help it. I just use ice packs and it doesn’t really help besides to freeze that area Which feels okay for maybe 5 minutes.

I can’t walk to much or it really hurts…..Did you have this pain to and what happened once the baby dropped did it hurt more?

I’m scared because i have a 7 and a 4 year old and my husband is out of town till the month that im due, and then he has to work anyways and school is out so im CLUELESS as to how im supposed to handle this and the kids If i cant move without being in major pain

A: You need a pregnancy cradle to help support your pelvis.

You also need to keep your legs together as much as possible (which is particularly important when dressing or rolling over).

Q: I am 38 weeks pregnant and have severe pelvic and lower back pain, what could be the cause?
This is my first pregnancy and I haven’t had any complications so far. I am not having contractions, although I do have some cramping but it is not severe and it comes and goes? My pelvic pain is so bad I can hardly walk at times. The pain has been present for a while but increased alot today. I am wondering if I should go to the er?

A: If the pelvic pain and back pain comes and goes and is getting stronger, it’s probably contractions. It’s back labor and that’s what it kinda sounds like. I’d call your OB and let him/her know, and they will advise you on whether or not you should go to the hospital. It very well could be labor or it could be the baby is dropping and causing you this pain. Call your OB. And your water doesn’t always break, don’t wait to see if that happens, time the pain. MY water had to be broken and I was already fully dilated and effaced.

Q: What could be causing severe pain in my lower back and pelvic area?
I have severe lower back pain that often leaves me unable to even walk. I also get pain in my pelvic area. These symptoms tend to worsen just before my period and when my husband and I are intimate. I’ve had a pap done about a year ago when I started having these symptoms, but it came back normal. Any suggestions or similar stories will be greatly appreciated.

A: Well, the severe lower back pain may be a kidney infection. The combination of the two symptoms you mentioned could be from a UTI, Urinary Tract Infection. I can sympathize with the pain felt in your pelvic region because I have experienced something similar when my husband and I are intimate. I asked my doctor about it and he said that most probably you are about to start your period and your uterus is swollen from the body going the process of readying the body for the implantation of the egg. Your body does this every time no matter if you are on birth control or not. It is just part of it. Anyway, your muscles contract during intercourse, and with it already being highly sensitive due to the period symptoms, it makes those muscle contraction even more irritating or painful. I don’t have an answer as to how to cure it. I just hope that your husband is as understanding and caring as mine and will be patient with you during the painful times. Reassure him that it isn’t him, and maybe even tell him what I have mentioned. Good Luck !!! Take some Motrin!!! Drink lots of water and stay away from caffeine….it tends to make your body more bloated and your glands more sensitive.

Q: Lower pelvic pain- only on one side? for 2 wks Now,I’ve been having a sharp pain in my lower left side mainly?
(I am female by the way), but it’s only on the left side. It’s especially when I sit, stand, bend, or lean. I hav’e 3 pelvic exams all came ok but all doctors told me to drink plenty of fluids and go see a OBGYN and which i will see next Thursday. but need help in pain alot.

A: Without knowing you past I can only guess. Have you had stomach problems? Do you have cramps very often? Do your bowel habits change for no reason?
You might want your doctor to check for the possibility of Diverticulitis. An inflamation of the colon. This could develop into something serious if let go.pp

Q: Bad abdominal pain, pelvic pain, lower back pain and a fever?
I feel so ill, and in quite a bit of pain but im really scared about what it is. I’m home alone and it’s got worse as the day has gone. I’ve had abdominal pain for ages now, but I feel ‘ill’ with it. I’m 17, not sexually active and im due my period so it cant be that. Does anyone have any idea what it could be and is it worth me seeing a doctor?

A: You are suffering from a rare disease known as elviosis which is the inflamation of the mental nerves. This means that your brain is liquifying abd will soon become mentally retarded…. there is no escaping this

Q: What can I do about pelvic pain during pregnancy?
I am 27 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and having severe pelvic pain. I haven’t been back to the doctor to talk to her about it, but I just kind of wanted some ideas of what to do. It gets so bad some times that I can barley walk and all I do is cry. Please help!!

A: go google symphisis pubis dysfunction(SPD). i have had severe pelvic pain since 24 weeks and everyone just kept telling me it was the baby, but i knew it was something more. go there and see if any of those symptoms fit you, if so, ask your dr. mine prescribed me anti-inflammatory meds and pain meds. and now he’s onna induce me a week early. i feel your pan….its bad! good luck!

Q: How common is it to have pelvic pain during pregnancy?
My wife has been having some pretty severe sharp pains in her pelvic area. She’s around 7mo. There’s a scientific term for it, but I forgot. Is it pretty common? Did/do you have these pains?

A: Oh, yes, both of my pregnancies and probably will this time too. It feels like you are being stabbed. Usually, it’s the baby pressing on a nerve. Sometimes changing position will help or doing pelvic tilts, but often, it’s a matter of waiting for the baby to decide to move.

Please pass on my sympathy. I clearly remember how painful and difficult it is to endure.

And I will add, it is very kind of you to check here to get some opinions to relieve her mind.

Q: Is this severe pelvic pain normal during pregnancy?
I’ve had severe pelvic pains when I move, basically it hurts anytime I’m not sitting with my pillow or laying with it. It’s a pain that’s like a shooting pain in the pelvic area with contractions occurring every ffew minutes too when I’m not sitting. I’ve been having Braxton Hicks pains for 2 weeks on a nightly basis, but this has been bothering me for the last 16 hours and I have no health insurance so I don’t want to show up to the ER just yet. I’m 30 weeks pregnant. Any and all suggestions would be very helpful..Thank you in advance!

A: Pelvic pain is very normal when your that far along. And yes, it hurts so bad that you can barely move. It will only get worse, so hang in there.

Shooting pain around your vagina. I don’t know if your talking about that, but that is normal to. If you haven’t experienced it yet, I’m pretty sure you’ll start to experience that real soon. It will feel like a shooting, stabbing, sharp pain around your vagina. No worrys, because that is your baby on your cervix pressing up against your nerves.

Don’t worry about Braxton Hicks. If you go to the hospital with Braxton Hicks, they’ll just send you back. Wait to at least see if they start getting 5 mins apart.

If this doesn’t help, it’s best to see the doctor. I know it’s expensive, but sometimes you can’t put a price on your baby.

Good luck.

Q: How did you relieve Pelvic/Back pain during pregnancy?
Baby will be here within a month and a half, I have had this pelvic and back pain since the second trimester. It’s just got to the point where I need some relief, is there anything I can do myself to relieve the pain? And after I delivery will I still have this pain, when I try to work out?

A: when you are in bed you need to buy a v shaped pilow or arrange your pillows in an upside down v shape and have your head at the point, the two “wings” will support your shoulders and it does reduce the pain even if only for a little while, but will make sleeping a whole lot easier, you also need a pillow between your knees if you lie on your side that helps with the back and pelvic pain, good luck xxx

Q: Right pelvic pain..pregnancy?
For the last 2 days i have been having a dull aching pain on the right side pelvic area..in the crease where the upper leg hits the bottom of the pelvic area(if that makes sense). Has anyone experienced this early in pregnancy..my dh and I have been trying to conceive for 9 months now and had our first IUI done on december 13th…7 days ago..so i wouldnt even know if we are pregnant until next thursday..but was just wondering if this is a sign of early pregnancy.. Thank you in advance for your answers..

A: It could be implantation pains. Wishing you the best!!

Q: How do you relieve Pelvic pain during pregnancy?

A: YOGA BALL BABY!!!!! it totally relieves the pressure when you’re sitting and helps to stretch out the muscles and ligaments in the area, preparing you for that long haul in the stirrups. I had bad pelvic pain and being able to stretch without the pain of gravity or pressure really helped. But do see a doctor if it gets too bad.

Q: why pelvic pain during pregnancy is that a concern?
I’m 30 weeks pregnant and having lots of pain down in my pelvic area it hurts everytime I walk and sit up right and closing my legs…Does anyone have an answer???

A: it is normal for some women to have some type of pelvic pain. I know because i have what is Called Pelvic Seperation. Which is when there is to much preshor from the baby ro your stumic. Let your doctor know and they may have you use an SI belt. I have that and have to take vicodin. I am at 39 weeks but the pain started around 35 weeks this is my first child. Good luck and Congrats

Q: pelvic pain during pregnancy?
I just hit my 24th week mark and tonight at work, out of nowhere when i was putting something on a shelf, I had a pressure/pain on my pelvic bone area. Only lasted maybe an hour, a little over, but it hurt just to go pee, like when I put pressure on it trying to. But then it was gone as quick as it came almost. Is this connected to the pregnancy at all? is it normal? Its my first pregnancy (obviously lol) so I have no idea whats going on.

A: I think that you are probably ok. I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and i have been complaining to my doctor about cramping.
She said that it is probably the round ligament pain. If you arent sure what they do, they are ligaments that hold your uterus to the pelvic bone. She (my obgyn) said that it is cramping because the baby is growing and that i shouldn’t worry.
So dont worry, it could be nothing.
I would mention it to my obgyn or dr. at the next prenatal checkup though, just to be sure.

Q: Could this pelvic pain be a pregnancy symptom?
I am 8 days past ovulation (we had intercourse 3 days before). My breasts are sore, and that doesn’t usually happen before I get my period. The weird thing is that I have a near-constant sharp ache right on top of my pubic bone, again, not a normal PMS symptom. I took an Equate pregnancy test today that came out negative. I figure it’s still too early to get an accurate result.

No pregnancy website is mentioning this weird pubic pain. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

A: A friend had same pain. She got checked and was P.I.D. (pelvic inflammatory disease).Check webMD on it see if that helps.

Q: Why do I have pelvic pain while sneezing during pregnancy?
I have a sinus infection and have been sneezing, i’m 5 weeks pregnant, and whenever I sneeze I feel pain in my pelvic area, should I be worried?

A: No, that’s normal. Your ligaments are stretched due to your uterus growing, and sneezing or coughing sometimes makes them ache. I would get sharp pains from sneezing or rolling over in bed but my dr said it was fine as long as the pain stopped and i wasnt bleeding.

Q: Has anyone experienced excruciating pelvic pain during pregnancy?
I have been experiencing pelvic pain on/off for 6 weeks now and am 39.5 weeks pregnant. I have asked this question before, but did not get many answers. It is a sharp stabbing pain that goes right through my anterior and posterior pelvis and can happen at any time of day, in any position. If you have experienced this, will this indicate that I am doomed for a terrible labour and delivery as the wee ones head just might not fit? My OB said the pain is stretching and the little ones head brushing up against my pelvis….

A: I have had this pain for quite some weeks now (I’m 34 weeks now.) At 30 weeks I went into pre-term labor and was 50% effaced.

My doctor said part of the problem is that my baby has been dropped into position for a long time and she is pushing against my cervix. I had complained about this several weeks before I went into pre-term labor and she didn’t seem to concerned.

I haven’t given birth yet, so I can’t tell you if it will be a terrible labor or not, but my guess is that you baby probably isn’t breeched so that it always a good sign. I don’t think the pain is caused because the baby’s head wouldn’t fit because I’ve had this pain since like week 26 or so and I know at that age her head wouldn’t be that big.

Q: Pelvic pain during pregnancy?
I am having some strange pain when I reach over really far to grab something while lying down and when I get up really fast. Doesn’t happen all the time, just occasionally. It’s in the pelvic region. Feels like ligaments stretching or something. not sure if it’s just low gas pains or what. Feels like muscles and stuff. Kind of worrisome. wondered if anyone else experienced those kinds of pains during pregnancy?? I am 12 weeks

A: The pains you are feeling sound like ligament pain and it’s just your muscles getting prepared to stretch much farther. I am 17 weeks now so I don’t feel those as much anymore, but not that long ago every time I stood up I knew what I was in for. lol I used to try to remember to get up slowly like an old lady so it wouldn’t hurt. It’s nothing to be worried about at all. It’s just a pain your not used to, but it’s perfectly normal.

Q: How far into your pregnancy did you experience pelvic pain?
I was just curious how far along you were when you experienced pelvic (vaginal pain) from things stretching and getting ready for baby!!! Your input would greatly be appreciated!!!! Thank You!!!
It’s not a constant pain just a sharp pain that comes and goes right a way. I read about it and it’s common in the third trimester.
I am 31 weeks and I had it quite a bit today.

A: I’m 37 weeks and besides the round ligament pain, I haven’t felt much pain per say. I do however feel alot of pelvic pressure. And you’re right, that’s just baby settling in, getting ready for the grand entrance. What you might be experiencing is your baby has turned already. He/She may already be in the head down position, just not engaged yet. Now the real fun begins. Lol =)

Q: Has anyone had severe pelvic pain during pregnancy? I am 24 weeks (today).?
For the past week or so I have had severe pelvic pain…as if someone kicked me in the groin area. It’s hard to walk without pain now. I have a Dr. appt next week but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did for it. This is my 4th pregnancy and Ive never had this pain before.

A: Hi there I really feel for you as i had this right at the end of my last pregnancy so I guess I was luckier in that I didn’t have it for as long. They will most likely give you a support to wear which will take some of the weight of your bump off your pelvis although this may not provide you with as much relief as you need it does help a little. Mostly you need to just rest ss much as you can which is obviously going to be hard as you have other little ones.If you feel like you need to get some form of exercise swimming or aquanatal classes are good as the water takes your weight and your pelvis gets a little bit of rest.
Sorry that I cant give you any more advice than this ,but i dont think they can do all that much for this problem.Hoping you feel a bit better soon x x.
